PHUKET: A man was killed after he crashed his motorcycle into a road sign at high impact earlier today (March 21), his passenger survived.

Shortly after midnight, Thalang police and Kusoldharm rescue workers were called to the scene at Saladaeng junction on Thepkassatrri Rd.

Police found one of the male victims unconscious lying in a pool of blood, with injuries to his head and right leg.

The second victim was found sitting on the road, with a few scratches and bruises. Both victims were taken to Thalang Hospital.

Police took the damaged motorbike with the collapsing front wheel to the police station.

Police later learned that one of the victims, Somjai Tengsomboon, 18, died in hospital from head injuries.

Police made their way to Thalang Hospital and questioned the surviving victim, Sathaporn Wongwai, 35.

Sathaporn told police that he and the driver, Somjai, had been drinking in Maeng Mai. They were driving around looking for a new place to drink, when Somjai crashed the motorbike into the road sign at high impact.

Feeling sorry for the young man, but drinking and driving is a death wish.

May he Rest in Peace.

Well, he has probably found a new place to drink...

Perhaps they should clarify how far left the sign wanted them to be.

"Feeling sorry". Sorry, but I don't feel sorry for people who rule their minds by stupidity instead of common sense. Old enough to drink, old enough to drive, old enough to know the combination of the two is total stupidity, but he did it anyway. Som nom na.

Another loss of life on the roads here, but what is also of concern is these are the riders / drivers coming in the opposite direction of all other road users, everyday.

Lying in a pool of blood with injuries to his head.......... No crash hat , what are the odds ?

The 18 year old driver that died wasn't even legal to drink ( think 20 in Thailand ) however may he RIP

"...these are the riders / drivers coming in the opposite direction of all other road users..."

Didn't say that in the report. You're not just making it up are you?

Somehow, the message does not get through. Motorbikes and speed. The sign says "Keep Left"..not "Keep Leaving"

wish granted

Yes, I made it up. It was a private road that he owned. It was not open to the public. He passed no other drivers / riders before his accident.

One dangerous driver off the road - Lucky he didnt kill anybody else

as harsh as your comment may sound I tend to agree with u. It's sad when a stupid person is killed but much worse when innocent people are killed due to stupidity of others.

Asking for it - eventually got it, and deserved it. No sympathy from my side - justice served. Luckily this idiot did not kill anyone else in the process.

This might not be a particularly sensitive sounding or popular post, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for some of the locals getting killed riding their little motorbikes. Lets face it: they drive like utter lunatics and the result is inevitable. When riding myself, when one of these insane individuals passes me in daredevil fashion, instead of getting angry at their insanity or doing something stupid/retaliatory myself, I just smile and remind myself that, sooner or later, the individual in question will be paying a hefty price tag for his stupidity and ignorance.

People, especially non-motorcyclists, enjoy making the point that these individuals are endangering others. While that might be true to an extent, from my own experience, they endanger mostly themselves, like the person who killed himself in this article. Crashed into a pole. Just maybe he'd been riding like a drunken lunatic for years and it finally caught up with him. He will no longer endanger others. So am I supposed to cry about this? Darwinism at work.
