90 day report - tightening up?

Featured Replies

I can see there is another thread where a poster asks if someone can do his 90 report for him.

Normlly, yes. I have seen people go in with several pasports.

Anyway, to my point. My friend went to do his 90 report today at Chaeng Wattana and told me that it took a good 90 minutes.

One of the reasons why it took so long, was that immigration officials seemed to be asking everyone a lot of questions about their addresses. "Where exactly is soi XXX/" and things like that as if they were checking that the applicants really lived there.

Apparently, another colleague had immigration arrive at his appartment and asked to see his papers etc. (This may be because they were looking for someone else in the same block, but who knows?)

I will be going in on Monday (I left the postal application too late after a failed attempt at doing it online.) so I'll see for myself how it is.

Anyone else experienced this type of questioning?

Edit: I tried to edit the title but couldn't. Maybe "tightening up" isn't the right expression but I guess it made a few more of you read it.

This amounts to nothing more than anecdotal , hearsay, scandal-mongering.

Best ignored.

Nah. Happens occasionally out in the provinces also. Farang clever, and as they invent ever more ways to circumvent immigration regulations, so the Immigration Police have to take more precautions. They could do away with a lot of this bureaucratic nonsense of course, but as long as this is their job, they do it. I'm afraid that they are often looking for tea money when they go off trying to scare Farangs.

Thourough checks/asking about the adress, drawing maps etc. are well known for yearly extensions based on marriage.

Even housevisits are taking place in some cases.

But it seems quite unusual for a simple 90 day report.

I live in the sticks (Khon Kaen), extension based on retirement (though married).

Never in 4 years any questioning about the address, especially not at the 90 day report.

Done three extensions, twice with wife accompanying, once alone.

Seems they are happy that I can tell my address by heart smile.png

Yes they used to just stamp you and off you go for 3 months.

Now they REALLY want to know where you live.

Now idea why.

Is it a tightening though?

Last year during the demonstrations I did my 90 day report at Big C. Lad Prao.

There, they checked the application forms thoroughly before issueing a queue number.

I saw 2 applicants who had no idea what their addresses were. They had to call someone to get details.

Finally did my 90 day report today. It took 3 hours 30 minutes at Chaeng Wattana.

Yes, I heard several being questioned as to the location of their condos or apartments.

There was also a long discussion between a Thai lady and one of the officers.

The Thai lady wanted to report for her husband , but the officer insisted that the man showed up in person. That is also a new one on me. I often see people with several passports.

from the Immigration web site

The foreigner makes the notification in person, or

The foreigner authorises another person to make the notification, or

The foreigner makes the notification by registered mail.

some form of autorization may have been missing

The only question they asked today at Chiang Mai was, you have 2,000baht you late, I say I know have 2,000baht. Nothing about address but I did bring copy of lease just in case.

I waited 3 hours 30 minutes.

When it was my turn I walked in, smiled said "hello", gave her the papers.

She took the notification paper, scanned the bar code which then set the printer off.

When the paper came out she stamped and signed it and then gave it back to me.

Probably 45 seconds in all.

I don't understand the long wait. I had number 174 and when I arrived they were processing number 68.

Did my 90 day reporting yesterday in Udon

Got the first number 1 8:35 am

Had to wait 20 minutes for someone to serve me

But it took less than a minute

All I said was good morning, kopin kup on the way out
