Rescue workers had to use Jaws of Life to cut the deceased from their vehicle.

PHUKET: -- Two men were killed and a man and woman injured after a head on collision between a SuperCheap truck and pick-up truck on a one-way road close to Sai Kaew Beach early this morning (March 26).

At 4am, Thachatchai police were called to investigate an accident involving a SuperCheap delivery truck which had smashed into a Mitsubishi pick-up truck on a bend in Moo 5 in Mai Khao heading toward Sarasin Bridge.

Police arrived at the scene with Mai Khao OrBorTor rescue workers and found the wrecked SuperCheap truck smashed into the pick-up truck.

The injured man and woman were inside the SuperCheap truck and the bodies of the dead men were stuck inside the Mitsubishi.

Rescue workers used Jaws of Life to cut the bodies of the deceased from the pick-up truck. They were later named as Suthipong Meesiri, 20, from Phuket (the driver) and his passenger Suthida Eimsamang, 21, from Petchaboon.

The SuperCheap truck driver, Nareithep Sakpirom, 29, from Koh Kaew suffered slight injuries and his passengers, Pakapan Tongchoo, 25, from Rassada suffered a broken right leg and a slash wound to her face.

Both of the injured victims and the bodies of the dead were taken to Thalang hospital.

Police also went to the hospital to question Mr Nareithep about the crash.

Mr Nareithep told police, “ We are employed by SuperCheap and were enroute to pick up vegetables in Nakorn Sri Thammarat. I saw a pick-up truck driving towards us in the wrong direction and at high speed. I tried to step on the brake but it was too late.”

Police have contacted the family of the deceased and notified them of the incident.

Police have said that Mr Nareithep will not face any charges.

Pointing out the party responsible is not derogatory blame. If you are driving down a one way street against traffic, you are responsible for any collision. End of story.

That is the way I see it, too. If I was sitting next to someone barreling down a street the wrong way, I would tell him to either turn around or get the hell out.

Phuket is scoring well this week with road fatalities....3 on the bus, 2 today and no doubt a couple of bike riders gone to God also.........!

Disgraceful stats.......the governor of Phuket should be dragged over the coals.......meanwhile.... the cops don't give a fig!
