Failure to report... Fine due?

Featured Replies

If you fail to report what fine will be due, please? Will it be 5,000 Baht? or a graduated fine?

Due to report on 1st March. Thought it was 31st.

I was 2 days late last month, largely due to the weekend & had to pay 2000B. Expect to lose half a page in your passport too.

The fine for assault or speeding is 500B. smile.png

A quick update.

Yes, the fine was 2,000 Baht total for failing to do 90 day report on time AND failing to notify change of address.

This is Thailand, break the law, and in most cases, you will either get away with it, or pay a fine out of the change you have in your pocket.

But never break any rules where Immigration is concerned, or it's a trip to the ATM.

MY FRIEND WAS THE SAME HE WAS 30 DAYS OVER HE WENT TO MAI SAI IMMIGRATION TOLD THE MAN ABOUT IT,THE MAN LAUGHED AND MADE OUT HIS 90 DAY AND PAYED NOTHING.

A couple of years ago I got the month wrong, and as soon as I realised I went in immediately. The guy gave me a long lecture, showed me a book on the rules, with a page that he'd previously highlighted in marker pen, and determined that I owed 40,500 baht. I couldn't read the book (in Thai and upside down from my side of the desk), or work out how he arrived at that number. I remained polite and pleaded. He said, "okay, this time no charge, but don't do it again", then stamped my report as normal. He got my attention though (and a donation to the tea box), and I've been prompt ever since.

The maximum fine for failure to do a 90 day report is 5000 baht, although in reality they rarely assess more than 2000 baht unless someone has done something really egregious, like failed to do them for an entire year, or conducted themselves rudely in the Immigration office.

I fail to see how someone could have a fine of 40,500 baht for anything. The maximum fine for overstay is 20,000 baht.

There is an additional fine of 200 baht a day that is called out in the immigration act. But I have never seen a confirmed report of anybody being charged ti.

"Section 76 : Any alien, alien, who fails to comply with the provisions of Section 37(2),(3),(4)or(5) shall be punished with a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht and with and additional fine not exceeding 200 Baht for each day which passes until the law is complied with."

I had to pay 2000 THB for a 2 months delay.

Good luck to do that in Samuicoffee1.gif
