I got a double entry tourist visa from Sweden Jan 15 and entered thailand at Suvarnabumi Feb 4. I'm now going to immigration to extend my stay but see in my passport it is stamped as a 30 day permit ( March 5) and not the usual 60 days.

1. Did the immigration officer missed to see my visa? (because it was attached 4 pages after all other stamps)

2. Or do they always do that?

3. Am I in trouble?

I plan to go anyways but... am a bit surprised by this.

As can be seen here, the Swedish thai embassy clearly says I'm allowed 60 days. But the rules maybe has changed?

No the rules have not changed.

Yes.

You can correct the error at immigration office in Bangkok.

Another case of: check the stamp!

Either you forgot to enter the visa number in the arrival card and/or the officer overlooked it.

Thanks.

Has immigration officer the right to individually make the decision of days? So what is stamped might supersede any other visa?

Can I correct this at the same time I apply for the extension or should I do it in two different occurences?

Can I correct it in any immigration office or should I go BKK unregarding of my located city?

it is not no individual officer decision. You can go to any office but you should go ASAP.

I overheard a heated discussion about this situation at a land border one time. The tourist had not put the visa number on the arrival card, immigration was busy and the officer didn't have time to check every page in the passport. There is a lesson here.

How could they possibly know that the tourist forgot instead of the officer checking. I'm positive I put my number down and also saw the officer look at the actual visa. However - Tomorrow morning we all know what's gonna happen....

Immigration Officers are human beings and as such are prone to making the odd mistake as you did in not checking what was actually stamped in the passport !

Why do some people attempt to deflect their own failings onto others ?

This is not a case of who is right or wrong, rather how to solve it. But thanks for your input, it's much appreciated by all failing humans.

How can somebody be so sure that they put their visa number down? And that the officer looked at the visa? If they don't even spend 2 seconds to check the stamp and see how many days they got????

The OP should've opened up the passport at the attached Visa page & presented the passport like that to the Immigration Officer. That would've been the smartest thing to do so they don't miss it ;)

The smartest would have been to avoid this forum all together. Anyone interested in how it all solved can pm me. Now, the rest of you are free to threadfk and yak yak with each other. Bye.

Well MRYANG, you asked for advice which you got, on a public forum and now you throw you teddy in the corner.

from my experiences opening your passport (or even putting the arrival slip) at the visa page, doesn't help much because the first thing the offices does, is to look at your ID page.

Mr Yang,

Please do tell us how you finally made out resolving this with immigration...

A major point for all to take away from this thread is to ALWAYS check the entry stamp (and date) right after walking away from the immigration officer - If you see a problem walk right back to the officer and inquire ;-)

No the smartest would have been checking the stamp in your passport. It takes 5 seconds...
