Impeachment of rice scheme trio to be debated
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is scheduled to consider an impeachment motion against former ministers in the previous government in the coming week, in connection with the controversial rice-pledging scheme.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai has called a meeting on Thursday and Friday for the assembly to debate the motion. The NLA will consider a request by the National Anti-Corruption Commission to impeach former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, former deputy commerce minister Poom Sarapol, and former Department of International Trade chief Manat Soiploy for alleged malfeasance in connection with the rice scheme.

The date of opening statements in the impeachment case will be confirmed in this NLA meeting. The impeachment of the three former officials complies with Article 6 of the interim constitution, and Article 64 of the Corruption Prevention and Suppression Act.

It is still a great mystery to me that no official action was ever taken regarding Pheu-Thai sharing state secrets with - and taking orders for government business from - a convicted fugitive living in exile.

It was clearly beyond reasonable doubt (I don't think a single person doubts it) yet nobody even tried and failed to stop it.

I really do wonder why. If the elected officials of Pheu-Thai had had to make decisions themselves, it would have quickly shown what a bunch of incompetent greedy cronies they were as the country gradually fell apart while they squabbled.

It has always baffled me John.

"The impeachment of the three former officials complies with Article 6 of the interim constitution"

It's always reassuring that the rule of law is based on a renegrade document created by solely a group who had to violate the rule of law (2007 Constitution). These impeachments actions are political theater designed to break political opposition to the Junta's continued rule by absolute power over Thais' sovereignty.

How can the Junta bring judicial reform to the nation when its mere existence, not to mention its raw exercise of arbitrary and capicious powers, violtaes the judicial process? Maybe the old saying applies, "It takes a criminal to know a criminal."

You of course would prefer that corruption remain uninvestigated and that the corrupt could keep what they have swindled from the country.

If you had bothered to inform yourself about this case you would know that there it is alleged that 20 billion was gained (stolen from the country) by those who took part in the fake G2G deals.

What is it with these little pieces of wisdom being sprouted by those who condone corruption. And yes, the wisdom bit is me being sarcastic. I cannot understand the thinking of some, or is it their intention to be provocative. Surely, if one had any common sense, then how could they post such mishmash but then I almost forgot, common sense today is not very common. What, only 20 billion lost, a drop in the ocean. Sarcastic again, sorry.
