Best things to take back home

Featured Replies

There seems to be a few threads on here about cheap imported stuff, etc, but i just wondered what people take back home from Thailand besides souvenirs that is cheaper or better here than in your homeland.

We usually take food back as we can't buy it in the UK or it's very expensive. Last time we took back an electric thai/korean style barbecue! Also normally buy some t-shirts every now and then. Also had a suit made before.

What do people find cheaper here than in your homeland or unavailable that you means you take it back?

If my wife was allowed to she'd bring back fresh fruit and vegetables lol !! Fortunately for me customs don't allow it.

Custom tailored clothes...I've had a bunch of Thai collared shirts made and always many compliments...also Thai formal wear....I feel comfortable wearing in suitable social ocassions....Thai spices you can't get there......

Thats a pretty good question as I just take back empty suitcase inside and empty suitcase....kinda like those Russian dolls. The. Custom guys laugh. Its the return when Im loaded down.....One thing I used to bring back was a half dozen real Jim Thompson Ties. Well made and a fraction of what a Talbot tie costs.

Mama noodles, they are bl00dy expensive in England - and koala bear chocolate covered biscuits.

According to my observations and also because of the bad exchange rate here in Thailand is already nothing cheaper than in Europe, but many times you will find scam and bad quality.

I've had a few pair of trousers made here, but always disappointed.

Any recommendations, particularly for casual trousers (slacks).

Mountain bikes.

Merida Matts 40D is 490gbp there and 16,000bht here.

You can buy it from a shop here and tell them to leave it in the shipping box.

Counts as one suitcase and weighs 14Kg.

I like Hong Kong Taylor. They are on the corner of Changklan and the Halafl street. That is the one with the Mosque on it. First left off Changklan coming from Tai Pae.

Yes if you know your bikes you could come over here buy a nice bike, have a bit of a cycling holiday and take it back to the UK. Just have to be careful what airline you fly with Emirates, Qatar, Etihad will take it no problem. Lufthansa , KLM/AF want a 200-300 euro payment.

tea.........as far as the clothes, they wouldn't know what pure cotton or tropical wool was if it hit them in the head. Certain skin creams are over the counter here, and dramatically less than the US. I'm going back almost empty, and have a 2 x 50 pound limit....Thai cashew nuts are cheaper in the US, too. I'm wearing an old throw away pair of running shoes, that I will promptly put in the garbage in the US. Leaving my good ones here, and bringing more next time.

A mate of mine brought back Chlamydia. Got divorced shortly afterwards...

I've had good luck with C&D tailors on Changklan in the Night Bazaar, between Duke's and Panthip Plaza. Not particularly cheap, but good quality, both pants and shirts. The pants I get look sort of like dockers.

There are some nice paintings available on "Artist & Tatoo Street" (right next to Mike Shopping Mall, same compound).

Very nice artists, make good copies and also draw portraits of anybody.

Also do as per order and take about three days to deliver.

Extremely reasonable and will also pack beautifully for you to carry on the plane.

Try.......

Hmm; that happened to me. Am I one of your mates?

For portrait drawings the best by far work downstairs in the night bazaar.

Their work is absolutely amazing!
