Satellite information used to predict future wildfires

BANGKOK, 30 March 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Science and Technology is planning to use satellite technology to forecast wildfires.

According to Science and Technology Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) has deployed a team of experts to six Forest Fire Coordination Centers in the North of Thailand. Their job is to analyze the cause of wildfires.

The team has been using satellite information provided by NASA to study the movements of wildfires. GISTDA experts have been able to forecast areas that are prone to forest fires to within 60 days of an future outbreak.

However, Thailand has been looking to replace the national THEOS satellite, also known as ‘Thaichote’, which is nearing the end of its life expectancy in a few years.

Regarding the drought crisis, the minister said the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) has introduced new water filtration technology for drought-stricken areas. The technology relies on solar energy to produce drinking water from natural sources.

The clean water project is a collaboration between NANOTEC and the Thai Red Cross Society. They have been able to produce up to 1,000 bottles of drinking water per day for communities facing critical water shortages.

"Their job is to analyze the cause of wildfires."

Why don't they ask me free of charge and I'll tell them the cause of wildfires.

It comes from unscrupulous farmers burning their fields or putting fires on purpose to create more land for farming.

It doesn't take a genius or spend lots of money to understand that.

Yep, so this so called satelite can predict when some little idiot sets fire to a field / mountain side for fun ??? Would love to know how they do it !! And still a wildfire though its been set alight purposely

It's the latest technology - ESP-Sat

Satellites that can predict. Can I buy one?

Locally everybody knows where the fires originate from and who sets them. Easy task.

I do know, but I think it is safer for me to stay quiet and do not get involved.

My mia says: you not see.

Not only that but they can "predict" the idiot will light the fire up to sixty days before it happens, this is way before the idiot knows he's going to do it... I suspect more BS from Thai "experts."

each year, same places, same people

same RTP doing nothing

no need for sattelite
