NBTC suspends two satellite TV stations

BANGKOK: -- TWO POLITICS-ORIENTED satellite TV stations - 24TV and Peace TV - were suspended by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) for allegedly breaching an agreement with the regulator as well as orders issued by the junta.

NBTC acting deputy secretary-general Sombat Leelapata said Monday that NBTC's Broadcasting Committee voted for both TV stations to be suspended for seven days for allegedly violating a pact with the NBTC and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)'s announcements No 97/2557 and No 103/2557.

Yes, he was trying to get Bangkokians to rest in peace, and was providing free cremation.

The NCPO told the media last year not to criticize the NCPO, its staff and related persons. Failure means an immediate ban and legal action.

Social networks cannot invite or interview former civil servants, scholars, former court employees, independent organizations or former judicial office workers in any manner that can confuse society, create or escalate conflicts, or lead to violence.

Also, no one is allowed to post confidential government agency information, including video clips, images or voice recordings. Further all channels must broadcast and inform all viewers of all information issued by the NCPO.

So what exactly did the two stations do that displeased the NCPO?

Confuse society?

Create conflict?

Not broadcast Prayut's lectures?

Criticize NCPO, et al?

So closed with no due process of law. No freedom of expression nor freedom NOT to be part of Prayut's propoganda machine. NCPO's idea of national unity is a nation in lockstep with the drum of the military machine that controls their sovereignty, their rights and liberties. So for the sake of NCPO's reconcliation and reformation, the tiniest bit of democracy must be be dissolved in the acidic vat of absolute power.

BANGKOK — Two satellite TV channels operated by Redshirt organizations have been suspended from the air for seven days for allegedly "inciting unrest" against the military junta.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) ruled today that the channels, Peace TV and TV24 People's Station, violated the junta's order no. 97, which forbids media from fomenting violence or causing "divisions in the Kingdom."

Sombat Leelapata, deputy sec-gen of the NBTC, told Manager news that the inquiry was spurred by a complaint from a national security agency that said the two channels were airing news programs and talk shows - some of which were hosted by Redshirt leaders such as Jatuporn Prompan and Nattawut Saikua - that may lead to chaos.

"The majority of those at the meeting concluded that such programs had content that could incite unrest and violate the NCPO’s order," Sombat was quoted as saying, referring to the junta's formal name, the National Council for Peace and Order. Sombat said the suspension will last for seven days.

Both of Thailand’s Redshirt and Yellowshirt movements operate their own TV and radio channels featuring news programs, talk shows, and live broadcasts of their political rallies. Media agencies affiliated with the two groups played significant roles in the pro- and anti-government rallies last year that culminated in the May 2014 coup.

The sooner Nattawut is made to live up to his "I will take responsibility" ranting from the red stage the better.

It is these trouble makers and their ever diminishing band of deluded followers who have kept this country in a state of martial law.

I think Prayuth is doing his share to divide the community. Now if we can do away with his propaganda show each week, stop both sides from fuelling the fire.

I looked at the channel several days ago and during their political talk they seem to show an aggressive behavior.

I guess no one is missing that channel. When my wife asked me what I looked she joined for a few minutes and told me she don't like it. She also doesn't like Prayuth's weekly show.

Chooka the country was divided before Prayuth, Even in troubled times Thailand does NOT want toilet stirrers. Prayuths SHOW every week is explaining more in one week than Yingluck did in 3 years. He is at least talking and not TAKING.

If your wife does not like the weekly show it is because there is no violence as in soap opera, and also she is not interested to hear any news of happenings here, To most Thai's politics is boring, give most of them money and they get interested..

all they do is spew out hatred - in any other civil country these stations would have been banned long ago and the redshirt leaders arrested and jailed as terrorists and the organisation proscribed as such, even with the junta in control they still seem to allow this garbage to get aired - I can understand why PTP allowed it as they are basically the terrorist wing of Thaksin but the junta ?

Didn't Yingluck have a "Yingluck meets the people" TV show. Sort of strange name as she didn't meet them but read a propaganda script to them.
