Commemorative banknotes marking Princess Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday anniversary in circulation April 2

BANGKOK: -- The new 100-baht commemorative banknotes marking the 5th cycle birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will be in circulation on April 2, the process's birthday.

Governor of the Bank of Thailand, Mr Prasarn Trairatvorakul, said the issuance of the commemorative banknotes is to pay tribute to the princess for her incomparable contributions to the country.

He said there will be a total of 10 million banknotes in circulation on April 2.

The color and size of the 100-baht commemorative banknote remains unchanged, or in red color and 72 x 150 mm size. The image on the front side is identical to the 16th series of 100-Baht banknote.

The banknote depicts on one side the portrait of the princess and the scene of royal duties of Their Majesties the King and Queen.

On the reverse side, the special yellow-colored ink printed on the portrait of the princess and the surrounding area will be fluoresced into yellow when viewing under ultraviolet light.

The new 100-baht banknote can be exchanged at any commercial banks, the Government Savings Bank, the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Government Housing Bank, and the Islamic Bank of Thailand from April 2.

Thundershowers forecast in the North until Friday

BANGKOK, 31 March 2015 (NNT) - Northern residents have been advised to brace for thundershowers from today until April 3.


According to the forecast by the Meteorological Department, an easterly wind is moving from China across the northern part of Thailand.

Consequently, the lower North, the Northeast, the East and the Central Plains will experience scattered thundershowers and strong winds.

People have been urged to take extra care when leaving their homes during the day.

Thailand serious about countering human trafficking, Labor Ministry confirms

BANGKOK, 31 March 2015 (NNT) -The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai has reiterated, in the TV program "Thailand Moves Forward", that the Thai Government's efforts in countering human trafficking in the fishery sector are a serious commitment.

Chiang Mai establishes Sister Cities deal with Chengdu

CHENGDU, 31 March 2015 (NNT) – The Governor of Chiang Mai is paying an official visit to Chengdu, to oversee the agreement to establish the Sister Cities and to enhance cooperation in many aspects.


The Governor of Chiang Mai Suriya Prasartbandit, along with the officials in the province, are now paying official visit to Chengdu City of China on the courtesy call of the Mayor of Chengdu Tang Liangzhi to discuss the establishment of the Sister Cities agreement and to increase bilateral cooperation.

Officials from both cities are set to discuss the opening of the Chiang Mai - Chengdu flight route, trade exchange, education exchange, the promotion for Chiang Mai tourism, and the exchange for arts and culture, which will enhance relations between both cities.

Chiang Mai and Chengdu has established the city to city relations, both in the government and private sectors, since 2006 from the Memorandum of Understanding on trade and development between the Chamber of Commerce of Chiang Mai and Chengdu.

Both cities have been cooperating in culture, economy, education, and logistics, while Cheng Du is the fourth Chinese city that has established the Sister Cities agreement with Chiang Mai.
