Govt to register all income earners

Featured Replies

Bangkok:- The government will soon launch an ambitious program to register all income earners in the kingdom no matter how small their incomes are.

Agriculture Minister Pitipong Puengboon Na-Ayutthaya said the planned registration is not aimed at updating the database of tax payers but it is aimed at allowing the government to provide enough financial support to low income earners in time.

Pitipong said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha gave the order for the registration of the income earners during a meeting of the council of economic ministers on Monday.

Prayut asked the Interior Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry to cooperate in complying a comprehensive database of all income earners. The registration will focus on their income, assets and addresses, Pitipong added.

“The government would like to know who the people in need are and where they live,” Pitipong said.

“This has to be done because when the government handed out help, critics often said the aids did not reach the hands of the people in need.”

He said the government would like to know the number of people in need of state assistance in each village. Not only farmers, but also vendors and workers and other professions will be registered, he added.

Pitipong said government agencies concerned will have yet to consult how to carry out the registration but it must be done before the end of the current fiscal year or by the end of September.

He said the information will be used in granting subsidies to rice and rubber farmers as well.

...... the planned registration is not aimed at updating the database of tax payers but it is aimed at allowing the government to provide enough financial support to low income earners in time.........

So why don't ask only the low income earners to register?

yeah right.

wasn't it just yesterday that Prayut was complaining taxes in Thailand only account for 18% of GDP compared to 40% in developed economies?

oh, and citizens are just going to volunteer all this taxable income information then..? cheesy.gif

This ought to be interesting.

So if you're an unemployed Thai, the Govt will not interested in getting your name/address .... funny how Govt "aid" works in this country.

Lunacy, the asylm is open and thriving

I think many don't pay their tax as they only see it as another expenditure that gains no benefit. Yet foreigners who make a salary in Thailand, pay more tax to government in proportion to a Thai, which is highly unfair given they don't get any benefit. No wonder people are relunctant to pay it !

Ulterior motives?

The foreigners who wear their tax paying status as a badge of honor here, should be the first proud patriots in line to register, saluting the flag with one hand, paying their Thai taxes with the other, whilst mumbling the Thai national anthem.

Assimilated in the "Real Thailand". thumbsup.gif

Why isnt tax status/liability/compliance incorporated into the renewal of ID cards?

as a taxpayer, I have no issue with this.

Having paid more than my fair share in Thailand, it hardly represented value for money. Hahaha

Don't mind paying at home since there are some competent services to show for it.

How about they just follow up with the people who are tasked with assisting the poor

when a village leader is given millions to assist villagers and the poor make sure that is where it goes and not to support the leaders lavish lifestye

Wait to see if anything comes from this. If it is to help to poor then why would it include all..?

Will bribes to Government officials and Thai police be tax deductible now ?

Until they change the banking laws to require reporting large cash transactions this idea will never work

This is a cash society and you can't tax cash unless you verify the source and that is not about to happen in this country
