Visa for 6 months stay

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My partner and I are Canadians and we want to live 6 months in Thailand. We both run an online business so we won't be looking for work in Thailand. Could you please tell me what type of visa we could get for our situation? I know that we could get a 60 days tourist visa that we can renew 30 days in Thailand, but what happens after that? Or are there any visa that will allow us to stay here for 6 months without having to renew anything?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate

A tourist visa can be issued with as many as 3 entries. A 2 entry visa would give you almost 6 months of total stay.

If you can only get a single entry tourist visa you could go out to a embassy or consulate in a nearby country to get another tourist visa unless you are from a country that can only get visas there.

Thanks! So I can extend a 2 months tourist visa for 30 extra days, then at the end of the 3 months, I renew our 2 months tourist visa, which gives 5 months in total. Am I correct? But can I renew the second extension of 2 months by 30 days also? Can we do all this extension and renewal within Thailand?

You enter the country using the first 60 day entry and then extend it for 30 days then leave and re-enter the country to use the 2nd entry and then extend that 60 days for 30 days giving a total of almost 6 months.

Thanks ubonjoe, it's all very clear now! On our 2 months visa application, do you think it might be a problem if we enter "online business" as our work, as it implies we will be working on our business while in Thailand?

"Working" in Thailand without an appropriate visa or work permit is illegal !

If you wish to apply for a tourist visa you should think about describing your "work" in a manner which is unlikely to attract attention.

You should put what your profession is. For example manager, engineer and etc.
