Mercedes P500 The Mercedes-Benz pickup truck!

Mercedes-Benz is building a pickup truck in Thailand! Yes, the maker of the world's finest luxury cars has yesterday announced his entry into the ultra-competitive pickup market together together with his ally Nissan.

“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute nicely to our global growth targets,” Daimler chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche said in a statement. “We will enter this segment with our distinctive brand identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are typical of the brand with regard to safety, comfort, powertrains, and value.”

Mercedes-Benz CEO & President Michael Grewe is rumoured to be the initiator of this project: "We are more than delighted to bring a new era of luxury to the pickup market in Thailand. Everyday, I see so many pickups on the roads of Bangkok, but none of them exude real luxury. There are so many rich kids here who would love to have a pickup, but don't want to be spotted in a Hilux or Triton."

Mercedes' new truck will also be exported to South East Asia, Europe, South Africa, Latin America, and Australia and the Middle East.

This might be exciting, and we don't have to wait to long. Due to the concept being based on the Nissan Navara, the Mercedes-Benz pickup truck is expected to hit the market as early as April 2018.

FRANKFURT -- Daimler declined to comment on a report that its first Mercedes-Benz pickup will be based on the Nissan Navara.

Nissan would build the Daimler-designed pickup based on Navara architecture with Daimler providing technology including four- and six-cylinder powertrains, the Wall Street Journal reported, quoting two people familiar with the situation.

The report said talks between the two automakers on the project were at an advanced stage, but quoted a source as saying that the details are “still being worked out.”

Yes, total loss of face for a rich Thai kid. Death would be better. The man's a genius...coffee1.gif

He forgot to add Navara, Colorado and Ranger to that list.

Jesus weeps to think what would happen if they were spotted in an Isuzu! hit-the-fan.gif

That's why I drive the BT50 :)

Mercedes has been building pick-up trucks (flatbeds) since the 60s,

But these are more "Sports trucks" and not work trucks like they have been building for 50 years......

Pity they have to use a Japanese car as a base.....

This is no April Fools joke. This truck is real and targeted at the US, Australian and South American markets.. Thailand won't see this tuck due to the limited market for a very expensive upscale pickup.

NissaN MIGHT BE TEMPOOR: a winner,

to get a brand name !

But what Mercedes will do with that Nissan technology

to reach BENZ Quality ?

For me only a complete new design,

maybee to keep the guard of the plot temporarely;

Yeah and your emoticon looks exactly like the front of your truck. biggrin.png

What took them so long?

Based on the Navarra, but badged with the MB star? Probably will cost twice as much as the Navarra. They can keep it. I just don't see too many of them as being work trucks or going off-road. thumbsup.gif

Question please,

What is a pickup truck for, mine hauls what is needed... Sure looks like a dumb idea to me.... Or is it just image.

Same thing happens here in America. Trucks are for work, not image... DUH

Certainly an ugly truck in the picture. But I can see that there are plenty of folks in this country who spend more on their car than their house. This will just be another avenue to misrepresent their phallus.
