April 1, 201511 yr Photo of Suthep's 'Armed Escort' ExplainedBy Khaosod EnglishA widely-shared photo of Suthep Thaugsuban sitting in front of two armed men.BANGKOK – The armed men seen standing next to conservative Thai activist-turned-monk Suthep Thaugsuban in a photo that has gone viral on social media were not his personal guards, the monk’s brother said today.Thani Thaugsuban was referring to a widely-shared photo of Suthep seated in a temple, flanked by two black-clad men who appear to be holding a submachine gun and an assault rifle.According to Thani, the men were not his personal guards, as many internet users had speculated, but rather local security officers in Pattani, a southern province where authorities are combatting a simmering Islamic insurgency."Local officials worked to prevent any incident, and they dispatched some officers to take care of Phra Suthep," Thani told Manager ASTV. "Phra Suthep was not personally involved in the matter."Full story: http://www.khaosodenglish.com/detail.php?newsid=1427877253 -- Khaosod English 2015-04-01
April 1, 201511 yr Popular Post Would be interesting to know who ordered armed security for a low ranking monk...............
April 1, 201511 yr "Phra Suthep was not personally involved in the matter." Said his brother, then it must be true.........................
April 1, 201511 yr Popular Post Joc , for once in your life stop being negative and spilling your nonsense. This is Pattani where Buddhists are killed every day. Doesn't matter low ranking or not ......he is a Buddhist monk. I understand your feelings against him but please show some sense, as I don't think you lack of it, but you are just trying to be clever. Edited April 1, 201511 yr by Costas2008
April 1, 201511 yr Popular Post have to agree with Costas here, monks are murdered in the area as well as the terrorists attacking innocent people, only right to supply armed guards for anyone with a name that is recognisable as being high up, perfect target for the muslim scumbags. Pity some people only see their personal bias and not the facts, this was pretty obvious to me and I cant stand the man.

He might be wearing the robes of a monk, but was in Pattani to sell and sign books for his political followers. Hardly the duty of a Buddhist monk!! Source with video: Bangkok Post
April 1, 201511 yr Popular Post Would be interesting to know who ordered armed security for a low ranking monk............... Absolutely. Normal practise is a squad of soldiers protecting low ranking monks. Also looks so much better, perception-wise. Shall I inform PM Prayut that a perfect opportunity was missed or will you?

Source with video: Bangkok Post If he is genuine or not is not for us to judge. But what I'm trying to understand is the riddle that is called JOC. You don't like the Siwanatras. You don't like Adhesit and his clan. You don't like Prayut and his Government. You don't like the Elite and the others. Who do you like JOC? Who do you think should be in charge of Thailand at the moment? I don't think you have an answer to that, but you just write posts against everybody either to acquire the admiration of people that they can't see through you or to get likes. C'mon JOC, give us the pleasure of knowing you and what you represent.
April 1, 201511 yr Pretty standard given where he is. It's a warzone down there and monks are the target. He is a poor and laughable excuse for a monk given his murky past (I found it hilarious that he was the poster boy for anti corruption) but it is what it is.
April 1, 201511 yr Don't like that crack head of Suthep but if those guards were really their to protect that fake monk I support it.
April 1, 201511 yr Popular Post Costas. To your question to which you asked of Joc about who should be in charge of Thailand. The answer is quite simple. Someone who is voted into the position by the people regardless of the colour of their shirt.

Thing is you need protection there, how about we send YL there unarmed unguarded... she is now a private person does not need protection (your reasoning).
April 1, 201511 yr Will he be doing his next book signing in the north? Only when he gets that squad of soldiers for protection, not that really helps much against grenade lobbing fun.
April 1, 201511 yr A wicked, wicked man. karma will bite his butt. I would think his card is well marked.

April 1, 201511 yr There was a guy in Bangkok last year that looks just like this monk. That guy led a mob and shut down the city, got people killed and even threatened the PM and her kids. That guy is probably in jail now since we have a legitimate PM. Edited April 1, 201511 yr by jamesjohnsonthird

"even threatened the PM and her kids." Source please ... especially for where you claim, that former-PM Yingluck has more than one child !
April 1, 201511 yr Surin Pitsuwan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surin_Pitsuwan But both without any history of leadership capabilities. I doubt you'll see him back in ordinary political life.
As was pointed out, he was not in the region in a religious capacity. He was there for personal profit, shilling his book. Do you think it is appropriate that a monk be engaged in a business venture that detracts from his religious vocation, and demands that the state provide resources to facilitate the distribution of a political tract? This man is the epicentre of corruption in the south.
April 1, 201511 yr Will he be doing his next book signing in the north? If the current government is serious about corruption, I would hope it would be from a prison cell.
