PATTAYA: -- Just before daybreak on Wednesday, Pattaya Police arrested a Russian on public order offences after he was found sleeping in front of a Pattaya Hotel and during his transport to the Police Station he attempted to escape and bit a junior Police Officer in his leg.

The case began when a two-man Police Patrol spotted a foreign national sleeping on the street, in front of the Woodland Resort Hotel in Naklua. The officers approached the foreign man, who was identified as Russian and aged in his early thirties.

As the Russian awoke, he quickly became aggressive and it was decided to take him to Pattaya Police Station and incarcerate him until he had recovered from his intoxicated state.

The man was placed in the back of a Police Truck and his transport to Pattaya Police Station was assisted by Police Lance Corporal Anuchit, who sat close to him on the back of the truck to ensure his safety during the journey.

Is he alive or are they holding up a corpse for the photo opportunity. I've arrested a lot of drunks and been bitten, kicked and spat on but it never made news or even aroused the media enough to come out and take photos.

Perhaps this case is a bit more akin to "Man bites dog" is why it made the news??

Just sayin'... Just joking.

What he did would be a felony in the States, whether the cop decided to "press charges" or not, so the drunken lout is pretty lucky.

I hope the officer got his shots. You never know where the Russian's mouth had been recently.

edit: Oops. Noticed your post too late.

Hope they gave the policeman a rabies vaccine.

The Russian, who refused to give his name, was taken straight to the holding cells and was questioned later on Wednesday. We understand the officer decided not to take the case any further and the man was released without further action.

All too common law enforcement in Thailand...take you to the police station for a while and then drop charges even though the guy tried to escape while in en-route to the police station and bit the police officer which could be considered assault. After all of that they just let him go. Pretty lax law enforcement, but hey, this is Thailand.

Assault police in Victoria Australia is a minor offence which just carries a small fine. The courts look at it as an occupational hazard. You get a bigger fine for speeding.
