alant
I thought it should be nearly transformed into an international sporting stadium by now. Isn't that the plan for Pattaya?
chicowoodduck
Yup, the local street cleaners will be out in force for the next month or so....Songkran goes on forever in these parts.....disgusting.....should be one and done!!! Popular Post jaywalker
Many years ago I was staying at the Windy Inn (far south end) on Walking Street. The princess was due to "have a procession" down Walking Street one morning for the dedication/grand opening of the Bali Hai pier. I thought it might be neat to attend, since I was there anyhow. I was picturing some parade with her riding by & waving at the crowds in a convertible or on a float or something.... Really didn't know what to expect. There was HUGE hustle all night to sweep the streets, and um, er, hang tarps over all the go-go bar signs. About 8:30 AM the street was lined with spectators, all of us having purchased small Thai flags (to wave in jubilation?) A blacked out convoy drove by at about 60 kph & the "parade" lasted all of 5 seconds. Edited April 4, 2015 by jaywalker
Matthew2027
Reading the Headline, I thought it was going to be a 'CLEAN-UP' not a Street Clean.... Silly me.
bushdoctor
Whew! That was quite a scare, I thought it meant clean up all the adult entertainment when I read the headline.
newnative
Hope his next stop is an inspection of the sidewalks on Jomtien Beach Road. They are in poor condition and falling into the sea at a number of spots.

oneday
Total waste of time. They need to hire permanent workers to continually clean Walking Street and the beach...then they are showing sincerity.

Pattaya28
Walking Street, like any other major "tourist attraction", should be cleaned "daily", not when the Pattaya Mayor wants a "photo-shoot" of his "goodness". What's the big deal ?
bartender100
Would be better to have a campaign to clean up the beaches and improve the water quality, some parts of Jomtien are disgusting, public awareness is needed, a Thai family will picnic in a spot, get up and go and leave everything for someone else to clean up, except there is no one else
dirtycash
walking street will allways be walking street. the only way to improve walking street is to remove that noise from the bars in arab quarter !! i would like to see them all closed down . Maroon Watcher
The truth is IT can be a great entertainment street for all, including families - real traditional, and "modern" entertainment Mosy people I viewed walking down the street were actually just looking - they didn't want to get involved with the street girls/boys (Obviously later in the night its more party people.) There can be shows for everyone - making it respectable, and busier Perhaps with a certificate above every door eg U, PG and yes X with no real hard X until after 12....... The same venue (and girls/boys) can have 2 types of shows - one before 12 and one for afters....

sir charles IV
A lot of mess is made by Arabs and Africans as well as sub continent tourists. Spitting, throwing waste on side walks etc. Control the source and you'll get a better long term solution. It also apples to body odor. Yuk.
