Uproar over two farang exposing themselves

Featured Replies

Bangkok:- Two video clips displaying a farang man and a farang woman exposing themselves while having water splashing fun have gone viral, leading to an uproar and harsh criticisms among Thai Facebook users.

Many Thais wondered in their Facebook comments why police did not arrest the two since the Cabinet has issued a resolution prohibiting indecent dressing for Songkran celebrations.

The first YouTube clip was posted by a woman who said it happened on the Khaosarn Road Monday night.

The one-minute clip showed the man walking with no clothes on, leaving nothing to imagination. He appeared drunk and walked among Thai and foreign Songkran revelers.

Manager Online said it tried to verify the clip but it could not tell where the incident happened.

Many Thai Facebook users called on the authorities to investigate the clip and take action against the man.

Kaew Yunyong, a Facebook user, said had the man done it in Singapore, he would have been caned and jailed for seven days.

Manager Online said the second clip, which is 30 seconds long, was recorded on the Pattaya Beach Road Tuesday.

The clip showed a western woman with pink brassier appearing drunk. She danced and then removed the bra in front of a lot of Songran revelers. Some revelers also took their selfies with the farang woman.

Arrom Wichaichan, a Facebook user, said the Cabinet issued a prohibition without stating penalties so no one was afraid.

Weerapat Phattaranukul commented that the woman should be arrested and taught about Thai culture.

Ekkasit Muangkaew said had the woman exposed herself in Cambodia, she would have been deported.

An advice to the Thais commenting on Facebook.

You should be more concerned and examine your culture and habits before being so upset about 2 naked people.

Look into the domestic violence, rape of minors, abandonment of children and families and other wrongdoings, happening daily in your country and then start worrying about this.

Hypocrisy, comes to my mind.

I bet the laughs just keep on coming in Khun Weerapat's house.

Even though I disagree with the draconic standards, I would have to agree with the sentiments that what is good for the Thais, in this instance, should also be good for the visitors.

If it wasn't linked to Songkran (first incident happening at night in KSR), then the law should take its course.

Well many tourists come here with the attitude of "I am on vacation and spending money so I can do whatever I like." They hand out leaflets to the Chinese on how to behave in Thailand during Songkran... Perhaps it's well past time to hand them out to farang tourists as well.

Do you think just because they comment on the wrong of this that they don't care about the things you mentioned?

Rather hypocritical a foreigner coming to live in Thailand, probably with no aspiration to get citizenship or even permanent residency, and tell the Thais what and what not to do.

When you think yours is the only true path you forever chain yourself to judging others and narrow the vision of God. The road to righteousness and arrogance is a parallel road that can intersect each other several times throughout a person's life. Its often hard to recognize one road from another. What makes them different is the road to righteousness is paved with the love of humanity. The road to arrogance is paved with the love of self.

As for your comment about residency and citizenship just shows how little you know about Thailand.

In a country where it sometimes is more difficult to buy a pack of fags, than it is to rent a hooker................

Perhaps you should have said "....more difficult to buy liquor at 7-11 than...........?

There are plenty of packs of fags in Thailand, many in Pattaya.

1. An extremely annoying, inconsiderate person most commonly associated with Harley riders.

2. A person who owns or frequently rides a Harley.

" Look at that fag riding that Harley."

"Why are these fags always so loud."

Reading the comments, the complaint of the Thai social media users is that the NCPO issued an order that indecent Songkran activity was illegal, so why weren't these farang arrested.

I've noticed this attitude previously and attribute the misunderstanding to a lack of education and experience. Law enforcement involves proper use of discretion. Just because conduct is illegal, if it is not seriously harming or causing a disturbance, it's not necessary to prosecute every infraction. Thais don't get this at all.

In the case of Buriram, although I thought no arrest was necessary, there were girls dancing near the Rama I statue. They were warned, but then returned to do it again.

In Chiang Mai, the police supe said there were infractions, but decided to use police resources to stop and check for drunk drivers. That's proper use of police discretion.

These drunk farang were on KSR and Pattaya Soi 6. These are tourist zones where police need to be vigilant for safety and security. Diversion of police resources to enforce public nudity laws properly takes a back seat.

So, we're back to the tired old argument that you have to be a "resident" to make a comment about the country you have been living and paying taxes in for years and years? Good to know, I'll have to write that down in my little black book of "things to remember when living and working in Thailand for very long periods of time".

I'm curious to know tho how many of those Thai's that were there and that know so much about their own culture, habits and the law actually said something to the naked farangs to let them know that it's not acceptable to do what they did ... ? My guess is they did jack squat, laughed at the silly farang and carried on with their fun.

Together with 2 million Thai men, women and children, who each and every day sell their bodies to the highest bidder??

Hypocrisy and double standards!!

Right... Let's all get pissed out of our minds, strip off our clothes and walk around our respective villages shouting, "I'm being oppressed by overzealous religious hypocrites!"

Somewhat out of proportion for their offence. Such behaviour is illegal, yes, but hardly classifiable as a menace to society or the state. A thousand Baht fine and a stern telling off would be sufficient in my book.

Yes they should arrest the nudists and send them for attitude adjustments and not let them leave Thailand until they pass a "Thainess" test

While they are at it they can go to NANA and walking street and arrest all the Thai bar girls walking around in their nickers

Mush ado about nothing

Now how would that work? For example... I think the price of Aussie fags is more expensive than a hooker here.
