Lite Beer
NCPO to invite overseas political academics to discuss Thailand’s futureBANGKOK, 16 April 2015 (NNT) – The National Council for Peace and Order will invite political pundits and academics from abroad to share their ideas on Thailand’s political transition. In the Royal Gazette published earlier Thursday, the NCPO has announced the setting up of a working committee to be a coordinator to work with various agencies and organizations, such as the Foreign Ministry and state-run universities and colleges as well as King Prajadhipok’s Institute and all five councils and committees set up under the interim Constitution. The new working group will discuss with all agencies and organizations about its plan to invite to Thailand overseas academics knowledgeable about politics, charter drafting, reform and political crises in their respective countries in order for them to share their experiences with Thailand. It is hoped that all opinions and ideas from these individuals will help Thailand move closer towards a complete democratic rule, in which the need of the people is in the center and nothing is in contradiction with international standards, and without interfering with the ongoing process to draft a new charter. -- NNT 2015-04-17
Popular Post Just1Voice
So, all these foreigners will be invited, show up, offer their opinions, then go home. Then the Junta will say: "Waste of time. Stupid farang not know Thainess. We are perfect so we will do it our way."
Popular Post Chris Lawrence
What so the people of Thailand don't count. It will take an invited scholar to set the agenda? Invite and welcome critiquing and reviewing of the regime’s agenda and policies from the people in the kingdom without fear of putting the General on a 'Tantrum alert'. Or people are not sent for readjustment for a differing opinion. This press release really sounds as the NCPO is treating the Thai people with condescension and contempt.

The Thai people have always been treated with condescension and contempt - the NCPO are merely following a well trodden historical path.................. phoenixdoglover
Isn't this on the wrong end of the process? The CDC is 1 or 2 weeks from finishing their work and submitting the draft Charter to the NRC. Why get input now at the end? It can't be used, unless there is going to be a big argument or delay in.... Oh, never mind.

NongKhaiKid
" Welcome to the working group, just a couple of administrative formalities. First, here's your list of Do's and Dont's. You will see the Do's list has only one item - Do agree with everything the government spokespeople say. We insist ! Everything else and we mean everything else falls into the Don't category. Finally the Non-Disclosure Agreement in which you agree not to talk to the media here or in your own country. We will take care of all disclosures on your behalf "

Start with the desired end result and work backwards to make everything fit.

Popular Post chooka
Haven't this Academics already been watching and analysing the junta's rule? They are well aware of the Junta's propoganda rubbish, ruling through fear and the extreme censorship of the media. Yes they will probably come for the Uncle Too Show take some notes, photos and use them for some light hearted comic relief between the classes in thier Universities back home. People will never really know what they really think of the Thai circus because the Thai media will be forbidden from reporting it. We will here have the specially scripted media release from the vaudeville propoganda dept saying how much these academics, love, admire and worship Prayuth and support him and his ideas 150%.

I hope the authorities haven't been watching Channel News Asia this morning because they are saying that the Reuters News Agency claim to have seen a copy of the draft charter including the amnesty clause for all the military men who took part in the coup. CNA is reminding everyone that in 2013 when politicians tried to push amnesty for their own it resulted in months of sometimes violent protest. I don't think that will go down too well and apart from anything else it will be seen all over the region. It's all looking good for the AEC. oneday
I think many of you have it wrong. The invited countries will show great understanding and sympathy for the current path the junta is taking and so there will be perfect accord and harmony. The countries invited will be... daiwill60
Will they all have to do a Thai Culture course before the proceedings begin, in order to understand Thainess and reduce the chance of offending anyone by telling them what they really think??? Of course , each member will have to foot the bill for each course. I do not get this at all. Thai academics are readjusted / imprisoned for voicing an opinion. Will all these foreign academics be given a "pay 200 bucks fine or go to jail card, or even better a "Get out of jail free card," before being allowed by their respective institutions to attend the talks. SantiSuk
Thailand hopes to discuss and understand its way into the modern world. Good luck with that, meanwhile get on with ramping up the revolution, that history foretells is the only way to achieve real stability.
