September 4, 200619 yr Hi, I am travelling from US to India and have a 9 hour halt in Bangkok. During this time, I would like to go out of the airport to meet some friends. So, is it possible for me to get a visa on arrival or a transit visa, at the airport? Please respond so that I can make the necessary arrangements. Regards and Thanks, ssca

Regards and Thanks, ssca I guess you would be on a connecting flight? Thus you will be in transit . Unless you clear immigration you will not be able to go and see Bangkok. But if you wish to clear customs you will get a 30 day visa. Best check with your airline that you can leave and get back for your flight no problem. I think the chances will be that you will clear customs. The same thing happened to me at LA years ago. I had a wait over of 8 hours. The cleared me and gave me a stamp into the coutry. I didnt go to LA but spent my time at the airport.

September 4, 200619 yr What passport are you holding? If USA-p/port, no problem, you can pass immigration and get a 30-days visa-exempted stay. If Indian passport it will be a bit more difficult. You need Passport (must be valid 6 months beyond visa application) and visa required. Visa can be obtained on arrival (that's for Bangkok airport) for a stay of max. 15 days, provided: - coming for touristic purposes; and - passport is valid at least 6 months and in good condition; and - holding onward/return ticket; and - holding USD 250.- per person or USD 500.- per family. Submit the application form completed in English only with the fee and 1 passport photo (size 4 x 6 cm.). Passport photo facilities only available at Bangkok Int'l Airport. Fees: Visa on arrival: THB 1,000.- (to be paid in local currency). Passport photo: THB 170.- per photo.

I hold a valid Indian passport and I have travelled to bangkok several times earlier and have taken advantage of "Visa on Arrival", but then most of the times, I had lay-overs of more than 24 hours. I don't mind getting (paying for) the "Visa on Arrival" just to get out of the transit area and instead spend time with friends either at the airport or at their place. So you think, it is possible for me to get the "visa on arrival" for 9 hours lay-over? Regards, SSca
