I have a Transcend dashcam and this afternoon I was stopped on the Don Mueang Expressway at the toll booth after passing a mobile camera. I am well aware of this camera location and drove past at 80 km/h. They still pulled me over. As soon as I rolled down the window the officer's eyes went straight to the dashcam and he let me drive away.

How would the dashcam confirm what speed you were driving at pj ? interested as i am thinking of getting one (Transcend that is) !

Mine have GPS which record on-screen the km/h but it's usually out by at least 10%

I think the main thing is that they don't want to be recorded during their conversations with drivers. And they know that some cams will have the km/h.

The blurb on my DashCam claims:-

"GPS used in these cameras reacts very quickly and captures even sensitive changes in the acceleration of only about 2-3 km/h."

Checking my spedo with the cam readout it seems pretty accurate.

Some dashcams have a GPS which records on the screen your speed. The Transcend does not have this option. However, the officer had no way of knowing if I had a GPS dashcam. I am only guessing that this is the reason he let me go but you can still have a rough idea how fast someone is going from the video. We fiited a Lukas dual camera to my wife's car which has a GPS included. Cost was 10,700 including fitting from http://www.lukasthailand.com. Owner speaks good English but website all in Thai!

You maybe right. The camera does record sound as well as video.

Video does seem over exposed. You can set exposure level but it appears only for the screen, the manual says:

"Exposure Value: Adjust exposure composition value to lighten or darken the preview screen. Available options: 2 / 1 / 0 / -1 / -2"

I will run a test to see if -1 makes a difference.

I would think having these might make you more of a target for theft? Kind of like when people first got Tom Tom's and other GPS map things. My friend had two stolen out of his little scion

comes with GPS and built navigation app, they will probably be in Thailand very soon, i seen similar here but none yet with android OS

The 650 has onboard wifi (as did earlier models) so you can connect in car to an ipad/iphone using the Blackvue app and watch live (switching between front and rear cams) or view any file that's been recorded to the SD card. Personally I like that better than having a built-in LCD display.

About 6 months ago was a posting here showing a tragic road accident, and a car driving behind also was hit hard and its driver was the only survivor. The police try to put the blame of the accident on him, but...he had a car camera showing everything. Also the camera tape all conversations inside and outside the car, useful for police stops. Many Russian videos on youtube showing similar incidents. That's makes me think about, and I bought a cheap but nice car camera in Lazada for 1.100thb (better ones go upto 6.000thb). Was in our car that is driven just by my wife, 2 weeks ago, when a motorcycle sided a door. The insurance guy was kind of confused about the event, until he saw the camera, and asked if everything was taped. Just that was enough to clear the events, and no to have any problems. Lazada have other type selling for just 400thb, but If I have to buy another, will be the one with 2 lens for 1.475thb, to get the action at front and back. Totally automatic, and can even be used like photo/video home camera.

yeh i do order stuff from china quite a bit small orders to thailand and bulk to EU

i did also see the cam you posted link to too, but spec and features are less than one i bought

and i had it brought from UK as family was flying here,

which is much more convenient than being overcharged on import tax (which to dispute means a trip to BKK)

and if you want to dispute it, you do not get your goods, and must travel to BKK to sort out a few hundred baht difference,

which obviously would cost more than what its worth.

when my friends or family come here half their luggage is mine

another item i just had brought same time as cam, was my PS4 steering wheel,

while i did find one shop in BKK stocking the same one (RS300 GTE), the price here was 20,000 baht

but in UK i paid £230 (11,500 baht) (aliexpress not sell)

You've had some bad luck there - the most I've ever been charged is 7 baht for something delivered by China or HK post.

i did once have to swerve quickly on highway here, as a set of step ladders come off the back of a pickup further ahead, i was very lucky as i swerved only because the pickup in front did, and step ladders missed my car by few centimeters, a car further in front was not so lucky

You've had some bad luck there - the most I've ever been charged is 7 baht for something delivered by China or HK post.

you obviously do not order that often, or order anything of actual value worth taxing.

as there is no import tax on items under 1000 baht.

Re GPS, speed, audio; Mine shows all when viewed via the manufacturers software but the files are without it & can be muted if viewed via a normal media player.
