Street lighting in Phnomh Penh - any improvement since 2010 ?

Hi All,

One of my most vivid recollections of PP is walking down the stairs at Sharky's into the pitch black street - fortunately my hotel was very close by but it wasnt a pleasant sensation. I realise Cambodia isnt Thailand and I have to adjust my expectations, but when one of the main streets in the nation's capital has no street lighting at midnight, you can understand that I'm less inclined to stay in that street again. I'm guessing the area around the riverside has more lighting, but we all know where assumptions get us - any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MrWW

Cambodia is a country of early to bed, early to rise people and indeed Phnom Penh pretty much folds up for the night by 9-ish except in tourist-frequented areas and around nightclubs/casinos and the like.

The riverfront area, being tourist central, stays lit and pretty busy till late, so does "Golden" street (St 278) and plenty of accomodation (as well as bars and restaurants) in both areas so if you want to stay out late I suggest you stay in one of those two areas and frequent bars there. Or, if you are especially partial to Sharkey's, just find a tuk tuk driver you trust and have him await you right outside.
