April 23, 201511 yr Pattaya: – A resort owner on Ko Larn fired a shotgun injuring five people following a heated argument with a neighbour over the dumping of cat faeces, police said. Witnesses told police that Wanchai Somjai, 50 has a longstanding feud with his relative and neighbour Kwanruen Chanpad, 51. Wanchai manages his Charoenchai Resort and Kwanruen has tourism-related business. The two often quarrelled with one another over a number of issues. In the latest incident, Kwanruen blamed Wanchai’s wife Tik for throwing cat faeces into her property. While Kwanruen and Tik were exchanging sharp words by shouting from their respective houses, Wanchai returned home and stepped into the fray. Wanchai walked over to Kwanruen’s house to speak his mind. After getting a strong retorts, he appeared lost for word. He then walked back to pick up his shotgun at home. He fired the shotgun hitting Kwanruen and four other people who tried to wrestle the gun from him. The injured include Kwanruen’s daughter Maneerat Changruang, son-in-law Weeraphan Changruang, Wanchai’s sister Puangngern Kaewkachai and neighbour Phimchanok Wongruen. Kwanruen sustained serious injuries as she was shot in the abdomen. After the shooting, Wanchai tried to flee the island by his fishing boat. Neighbours used speed boats to chase and force him to return to Ko Lan. They had him in custody when police arrived at the scene. The five injured people were admitted for treatment at a hospital in Pattaya City. In his statement given to police, Wanchai said he lost control because Kwanruen had gone overboard in trying to fault and bully him and his family. Before the cat poop argument, Kwanruen sent a number of thugs to beat him up, he said. Police have yet to get the statement from Kwanruen who is recovering after the surgery to remove the bullets.
