Infant Corpse Found in Chiang Mai Sparks Police Investigation

Featured Replies

Police received complaints from locals that sparked an investigation in Chiang Mai. Police were investigating on Tuesday when they found a gruesome discovery at Huai Din Jee Temple. Police discovered a glass coffin containing an infant child underneath a temple shrine.

Locals are afraid that black magic rituals may be the reason for the corpse.

During the initial probe, police questioned Chalerm Duangthong, the former abbot of the temple. Ms. Chalerm admits to burying the corpse, but states that her only intention was for the baby’s soul to go to a good place. The former abbot denies any wrongdoing.

Ms. Chalerm’s interview became even more intriguing when she stated that she paid 3,000 baht for the baby’s corpse and had initial plans to turn it into an amulet. She stated that she changed her plan of turning the corpse into an amulet because the baby’s body was too big and looked “too human.”

Police are trying to locate the undertaker that sold the corpse in an effort to determine if this is a case of trafficking human parts – a growing problem in the region.

Ms. Chalerm has identified the undertaker, saying that she has sold corpses or body parts to others interested in black magic.

Lots of this going around. More news about bags and bags of body parts in CM.

Black Magic seems to be more common than I thought.

Related is news of body snatchers and baby burners released from prison (monks)

and other Monks walking around with stolen heads of victims who died violent deaths.

Lucky for Lotto...i suppose. Unlucky for victims

Surely the act of buying a corpse is illegal, regardless of ones intentions' which in this case was initially to make an amulet! Seriously, these people need locking up, along with the suppliers.

And I thought that the hub of black magic was Buriram and the border areas with Cambodia. Seems that a new franchise has opened in squeaky-clean Chiang Mai.
