CHIANG MAI: -- A 24-year-old man attempted to rob a bank in Chiang Mai after learning the necessary skills from Fast & Furious 5 and other action movies.

Thanisorn Thepna, 24, was taken into custody within moments of walking into a Bangkok Bank branch, pulling a knife, and shouting the classic line: "Hand over the money!"

He was immediately apprehended by a police officer who had noticed him acting suspiciously in front of the bank before his big heist.

Let me guess... his getaway car was a four door 91 Toyota Corolla with the drum brakes painted red, lot's of stickers and an obnoxious sounding homemade fart pipe hanging off its end.

Master criminal. Best one this week. It takes an IQ of more than room temperature to pull off something like this which obviously he doesn't have.

Don't you need a couple of Morris Mini Minors to pull off a bank heist?

Wrong movie (but a damn good one!), and they were using the Mini's to heist money from a safe in a house. biggrin.png

Wrong movie

That's my point.

If only he had watched it. I don't think the Thai cops have seen it.

If he was on a budget ... he could use Tuk Tuks instead if Minis.

EDIT: I've just had a psychic flash. Within the next few years a Thai Production company will copy (plagiarize) the "Italian Job" movie and turn it into a slapstick Thai comedy with Tuk Tuks .. complete with "boing, zap and whoo-hoo!" sound effects.

Somchai's with no originality. They can't even pull off a heist without copying a fictional MO.

Errr... He DID'NT pull it off.

Cut!

Take two...

"Certainly Sir, would that be Visa or American Express? Transfer will be 4-5 days at 3%, the fees must be paid up front, we don't have actual money".

From a prison cell? I think additional planing, more movie watching and heaps of popcorn will be needed.

Maybe he should have got a "movie gun" rather than a knife. The kind that holds about 5000 rounds in a single compact magazine.

If he is in a prison cell, as long as he can smuggle a cell phone then he can call the A-Team who will get the jail break job done with a welder, gas axe and an old truck with makeshift bull bars, and nobody ever gets killed.

Somehow I think he might have got the idea somewhere else.....

And he would have got away with it.......

"Thanisorn described how one bad decision drove him to become a master criminal." I think I missed the part of the article where he did anything that could be considered "master criminal"!

Thai bank robbers have a lot to learn, another example of mastermind planning,

when the driver of an ATM cash delivery truck, drove off leaving the guards at

the machine, drove to where he had his friend waiting with the get away vehicle,

a TUK TUK, !,which could only carry less than half the cash, and of course they

soon got caught, spending money on new cars, and a house.
