Just found out that the historic and iconic Mali restaurant on Sathorn Soi 1 has closed and is currently being converted to Vincent's which is being relocated from nearby.

For those who don't know it, it was a very well established small restaurant in the Sri Bumphen area for over 20 years at least. It served both Thai and Western food. I remember it well when I used to stay in the Malaysia Hotel nearby.

It's was well reviewed in many magazines and online, but the main feature was the American Owner Peter - who used to have heated discussions about the Vietnam war and Thai politics, whilst wielding a walking stick. I don't know if he has died but he looked very frail the last time I saw him a year ago.

The restaurant was also famous for being visited by the Swedish Royal family, with a picture of them dining their years ago adorning the walls of the restaurant,, although i'm not sure if they ever returned.

A sad day for a great little restaurant in the annals of western eateries in Bangkok.

Does anyone have any stories about the restaurant and Peter to serve as a memorial?
