Peace TV’s operating license revoked by the Broadcasting Board

BANGKOK: -- The Broadcasting Board decided on Monday to revoke the operating license of Peace TV allegedly for repeated violations of the announcement of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Colonel Nathee Sakulrat, chairman of the Broadcasting Board, said that the commission had warned Peace TV which was owned by Peace Television Company on several occasions since last October that the contents of some programmes were deemed to be provocative, inciting disobedience and causing public misunderstanding.

On March 23, the commission decided to serve the television a written warning to Peace TV to comply with the law and to follow the agreement. Yet, the television continued to defy the agreement prompting the commission to suspend its operating license effective as of April 10 until April 17, said Colonel Nathee.

Peace TV resumed operations on April 18 but, again, it broadcasted contents found to be violating the agreement in a way which were deemed provocative and inciting public disobedience.

Reacting to the order revoking Peace TVs licence, Mr Natthawut Saikua, co-leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, said he suspected the order came from someone above the Broadcasting Board.

He said he didn’t why the powers-that-be were so afraid with opposing views. However, he indicated that the company might appeal the case to the Administrative Court to seek a stay of execution so that PEACE TV could continue broadcasting.

And the Nation newspaper, why are they still allowed to operate ? They should show consistency, and close down the Nation newspaper as well.

I would miss Steph's cartoons, and he must really get under a certain party's skin.

from another source, a bit more precise, .... but not much

Takorn Tantasit, the NBTC Secretary-General, said on 12 April that contents of the programmes Mong Klai Khid Rob Dan (Having Worldly Visions), Doen Na To Pai (Keep Walking Ahead), and Khaojai Trong Kan Na (We Share the Same Understanding) on Peace TV, and of Awakened, News Room, and Clear on 24 TV caused public confusion and divisiveness and incited conflict.

Redshirt TV Channel Ordered Off the Air

BANGKOK A Redshirt-run television station has been permanently canceled after Thai authorities decided its news coverage was politically divisive and could "incite unrest."

The decision was announced by Natee Sukonrat, deputy chairperson of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), on his official Twitter account today.

The station, called Peace TV, was previously suspended for a week in April after the NBTC said its news coverage violated the ruling junta's Order No. 97, which forbids media from fomenting violence or causing "divisions in the Kingdom."

The station, which is operated by the largely anti-coup Redshirt movement, often featured core Redshirt leaders like Jatuporn Prompan and Nattawut Saikua.

NBTC member Natee said today that the channel violated its agreement not to air politically divisive content.

"The NBTC has carefully deliberated on the action and concluded that it is a repeated offense," Natee wrote on Twitter.

However, another member of the NBTC also took to Twitter to voice her opposition to the board's decision to revoke Peace TV's license. Supinya Klangnarong said she was the lone member to vote against the measure.

In series of Twitter posts, Supinya explained that the NBTC can choose from a variety of punishments, such as suspending the offending talk shows. Yet, the NBTC "skipped" all other possible measures and shut down Peace TV for good, an punishment she called "disproportionate."

"I agree that, by principle, the NBTC should increase its effort to regulate TV channels to prevent the problem of reproducing hatred and incitement, but it should be proportionate," Supinya wrote. "We should not just jump from not using power to using power in the highest way."

If Peace TV is considered to be provocative - what about the Internet? Or some of the international channels on True? Something missing here. Or is it just brain cells?

TV, in almost every nation around the world, is highly regulated. The internet is obviously not.

These guys have been reporting on the draft constitution, and in a negative light. It's one sided and biased reporting. Other media outlets have toned down, this station has not.

The rules are different now and they have to abide by them. They obviously didn't. The red shirts have some great concepts, unfortunately their leaders are after something else all together.

Censorship of the media is not good, but it's reality now.

why is that exactly

Nation is a news channel - as already mentioned above several times - the "think of a name that will make us look nice channel" or so called "peace tv" was the propaganda mouth of an organisation that spewed out their vomit hate speeches and threats from what amounts to nothing less than a terrorist organisation, in any country in the west they would have been banned and arrested a long time ago.

and Supinya Klangnarong should be fired for opening her unofficial mouth, she voted and was outnumbered, her outburst and criticism is nothing less than a politically biased opinion voiced as a member of a National Agency which had already made its decision using the correct procedure, if she disagrees with it then resign and go work in a salon

Allowing only one side of politics a voice and denying people a choice is what is causing a division. What did Prayuth say, "The People must choose, not Politicians" He floods the airways with his speeches and propoganda rubbish and it forced onto the people but if the other side speaks out they are shut down. Where are the choices that the leader speaks of apart from him and him.

You are right. And that's exactly what got us here in the first place. One political faction denying the other side a voice. Along with very divisive messages broadcast by the red media. It was extremely one sided. And at times, not true.

Remember when the previous government allowed Taksin, a convicted criminal on the run, to be broadcast nationally?

If you go back more than a decade, the ruling government did the same thing. Controlled the media. Tit for tat???

Pedace TV?

alt=clap2.gif> alt=clap2.gif> alt=clap2.gif>

Do they mean the kind of peace they demonstrated during their peaceful upheaval in 2010

when they tried to kick away a democratic government

to bring back a criminal to power while inviting their peaceful thugs to burn down Bangkok?

Was the Democratic party not a Democratically elected Government
