Finding My Own Nirvana

Featured Replies

I did some volunteer work in Pattaya and want to head back to Thailand to chill out for a couple of months, but think I can do better then Pattaya!

Basically what I'd like is a town where I can rent english movies, has lots of massage places (regular massages) and where I can eat healthy- lots of fruits and veggies along with my noodles and beef (buffets work great for me).

So am I destined to head back to Pattaya or are there some other towns I should check out?

peace,

DL

Pretty much ANYWHERE in Tailand .... that is a resort area etc ....

DL,

you need to narrow it down. There are buffets and massage palours all over Thailand, it really comes down to what you are after. Do you want beaches, mountains or small country towns?

Let us know and we maybe able to steer you in a couple of good directions.

In The Rai!

If you've not been, I would get down to Phuket - there is a great choice of things to do there, chill out bungalow by the beach to full on night life, also golf, good cinema and supermarket facilities.

Thanks all for your responses.

I will add Phukhet to my list..... and in the Rai, well, I get a little bored in small country towns, and don't know if I can get my movie fix there, if you'd tell me a couple of towns I'll probably go check them out!

I realize there are lotsa places with buffets and massage parlors, I guess it was more the movie rentals I was after.

thanks!

Koh Samui, the north coast away from the idiots. Beautiful spot!

I guess it was more the movie rentals I was after.

thanks!

I dont mean to be rude, but why travel maybe thousands of miles just to sit inside and watch movies? Come to thailand and forget the movies, there is so much to see and do there just isnt time to watch movies.

Head upto Chaing mai and go elephant trekking, or rent a motorbike and ride up into the mountains, but dont stay inside and watch movies :o

it does RAIN some days :o

but UBC and ADSL are rain day answers!

The northern part, especially Chiangrai which is less touristy and cheaper to live. Vegie and fruits are abundant, environment is green with lots of open hills. Air is always fresh, less polution. Plan to stay with some local families and you will learn more about the people.

Since you asked, instead of getting all preachy about it, I won't consider it rude. :o

Basically I am into meditation, yoga and writing. I want to go on a little self-created retreat where I can easily get the foods I want for my medical issues, get lotsa massages, meditate, write and watch movies... for inspiration and fun.

I am an odd bird... I admit it. I would be a monk for sure if I was a bit less rebelious and didn't have such a strong need to be creative. Basically I am going to go set up my own little Devalover Monastery, complete with massages and movies!

And I will add Changrai to my list.

This is a very good and a very revealing post.

My reading of it is, someone would move to Thailand as long as someone else opens for them Tesco Lotus or Carefour, gets good hospitals nearby and bring everything else human organizations do in the developed world.

Just reading in the Isaan forum how the folks who "left it all" cheer announcements or even rumors about "civilization" coming into the sticks.

Good that they feel well there but I need more convincing to make that move.

Devalover,

I am sure you will love Chiang Rai and everywhere else for that matter!

Have a great trip and be sure to go and relax at "pattaya noi" in Chaingrai not the real Pattaya. It is a nice place with alot of nice thai restaurants along the river with a mountainous backdrop. you can sit down, lie down, eat til your hearts content. have a few beers if thats your thing or even swin. It really is a nice place to chill out. Its where I like to do alot of my own "Beer Chang Meditating" and it certainly does relax me.

In The Rai!
