Saudi Arabia foils US Embassy attack, arrests 93 suspects

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday announced the arrest of 93 suspects with ties to the Islamic State group who it says were planning multi-pronged attacks on the U.S. Embassy, security forces and residential compounds where foreigners live.

Abandoned old man rescued

Chon Buri: – The Sattahip authorities have intervened and rescued a senior citizen whose relatives cited poverty as reason to abandon him at a Buddhist temple like a stray dog.


The plight of Jun Boonsaeng, 81, came to light after monks at Wat Thep Prasart in Sattahip district found him sitting alone and crying.

Krabi police duped by social media hoax

Krabi: – Provincial police yesterday were on high alert after receiving a tip-off in the form of video clip shared in the social media about a gold shop robbery in progress.


According the clip, the robbery was taking place at the unidentified gold shop located in the market of KhlongNua district.

Online video service Hooq to launch in Thailand in May

While we are still waiting for Netflix to launch right across Southeast Asia, there are many other companies that are getting in on the action beforehand.

One such service, Hooq, is an Internet-based video streaming and download service run by Singaporean mobile operator Singtel, in conjunction with Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. The new service offers unlimited streaming and downloading for a subscription, and aims to launch in Thailand next month.

Nigerian man arrested for allegedly selling drug

Bangkok:- Metropolitan police have arrested a Nigerian man at his Bangkok rented room for having allegedly sold crystal methamphetamine and cocaine.


Onyejiekwe Morgan Chinemeremm, 29, was arrested in a sting operation, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sriwarah Rangsitpramkul and Pol Col Suthep Chanasit, an inspector of the Metropolitan Police Division 4, told a press conference at 4 pm Tuesday.

Former Chart Thai Pattana MP Toon dies of heart failure

BANGKOK: -- Toon Jintavej, former Chart That Pattana MP for Ubon Ratchathani, died of heart failure Tuesday night. His relatives rushed him to the Sappasit Prasong hospital at 10 pm after he fainted and became unconscious.

He died at the hospital at 11:30 pm at the age of 70. The funeral service will be held at the party's office in Ubon Ratchathani's Dej Udom district.

A program offering discount stationery to be held from April 30 - May 10

BANGKOK, 29 April 2015 (NNT) – The Commerce Ministry and the private sector will jointly hold a campaign offering discount stationery from April 30 to May 10, to help parents at the start of a new school term.


Spokesperson of the Ministry Duangkamon Jiambutr explained that the 11-day program is similar to the end-of-year sales campaign held earlier, but this time designed for students and parents.

She said that items on offer at the fair include stationery products, garments, utility tools, and food. Ms. Duangkamon said the prices of those items would be slashed by up to 70%. The campaign will be held in major department stores nationwide.

The spokeswoman also said that prices of school uniforms this year would remain the same as last year, after the ministry held talks with manufacturers asking them to freeze prices for the time being.

Thai subjects sign good wishes for Their Majesties

As April 28, 2015 marked the 65th wedding anniversary of Their Majesties the King and Queen, people from all walks of life crowded the 100th Anniversary Siriraj Pavilion in Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok, to sign books expressing their wishes for Their Majesties’ happiness and longevity. They brought flowers and souvenirs for Their Majesties the King and Queen to show their affection and loyalty.

The well-wishers included, among others, Constitutional Court judges, the Chairperson of the Army Housewives’ Association and staff, Mr. Somporn Theppasittha and committee members of the Ruamjit Normklao Foundation for Youths under the royal patronage, members of Mom Ngamjit Burachat Foundation, members of the Navy Wives’ Association, the Director-General of the Secretariat Department of the Ministry of Defence and several groups of Buddhist monks and novices from several monasteries in Bangkok and the provinces.

Thai FDA cracks down illegal health product ads

Bangkok:- Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking tough action against the illegal advertisements of health products, and urging other authorities to do the same.


Together, they can mete out a jail term, a fine, a website blockade, and even revocation of broadcasting licenses.

Mysterious fires in Phatthalung now divulged

Second group of stranded Thais return from Nepal

BANGKOK: -- The second group of 64 Thais stranded in Nepal after the deadly earthquake hit the country last Saturday returned safely early Wednesday at the military airport in Don Mueang.

The C130 transport plane landed at Sixth Wing airfield at Don Mueang at 2.15 am.

The plane left Kathmandu international airport at 6 pm.

All the Thais were warmly received by their families and friends at the Sixth Wing airport.

Some bursts in tears after seeing their loved ones returned safely.

All the stranded Thais were required to go through immigration process of their travel documents before they were allowed to leave.

The government also arranged bus for those who have no relatives coming to receive them and sent them homes.

Min of Commerce introduces Single Point Service for new businesses

BANGKOK, 29 April 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce has set up the Single Point Service center for new businesses, in order to streamline company applications.


The center combines services from the Department of Business Development, the Department of Intellectual Property and the Department of International Trade Promotion.

Companies can register their new businesses and trademarks, as well as apply for both importer and exporter identification cards at the same facility.

The turnaround for each process is approximately 1.5 hours. The ministry claimed the application times are in line with international standards.

The MOC Single Point Service has also introduced a paper-less system as part of the Digital Government policy.

Saudi king names counterterrorism czar as new crown prince

Their Majesties donate fund to help quake victims in Nepal

BANGKOK: -- Their Majesties the King and Queen have donated 10 million in cash to help the people who have suffered from the deadly earthquake in Nepal.

Dr Distorn Vajarodaya, the Grand Chamberlain of the Bureau of the Royal Household, and executive chairman of the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under the Royal Patronage , disclosed today that Their Majesties the King and Queen have designated the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation to donate 10 million baht in cash to assist the people suffering from the earthquake in Nepal.

Their Majesties instructed that the prime minister be designated to undertake the cash donation to the people in Nepal, he said.
