Job Coming To An End, What Visa To Convert To - Want Extension Of Stay

Featured Replies

Need some advice please:

I have been working in BKK for approx 4.5 years. I have a Non-Imm "B" + annual extension. My job will probably come to an end in the next month or two. I'm looking at some other work opportunities but they may not come to anything before the current job ends.

I'm a high tax payer and I've just got married to a Thai national. I currently work for a western company which is in JV with a large Thai group, who I may be able to prevail upon to act as a referee for me. Short version: I have more than one eye on an application for PR in the next couple of years.

Problem: I don't want to let my "extension of stay" status expire for any reason as I believe that will reset the clock with regard to applying for PR.

Question: what approaches can I take to stop this happening? Obvious options seem to include converting visa to a Non-Imm "O" (support of Thai wife) or Investment (bring in Bt 3M - buy condo / deposit in govt bank etc).

I'm planning to use any "between job" time :o to improve my Thai language skills on a full time course, so could a Non-Imm ED be a left field option?

Any comments on how / when I can change my visa to preserve that precious "extension of stay" status?

Thanks in advance,

CC
