Donations from Phuket for Nepal earthquake victims continue to roll in. So far, over 1 million baht has been raised through the Phuket Together for Nepal Disaster Victims campaign. Over 5,000 lives have been claimed in the devastating earthquake, and thousands more are injured.

Two generous donors gave over half a million baht, which doubled the fund’s donation total. The Thavornbutra family donated 12,000 baht, and 500,000 baht was given by the Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation.

Nisit Jansomwong, Phuket Governor, called for more donations to help the people of Nepal, stating that the victims were in dire need of aid. The governor went on to remind the people of Phuket that many people from around the world came to their aid after the devastating tsunami hit. Mr. Nisit said it was their turn to give back.

The initial round of donations will be given to the Nepalese embassy on May 7. Donations will continue to be collected until May 30.

There are approximately 2,500 Nepalese people currently living in Phuket. Panuphong Limbuprasertkul, who is president of the Thai-Nepalese Foundation in Phuket, extended his condolences to the friends and family of

the earthquake victims in a press conference Wednesday morning.

Anyone who wishes to donate can do so at the Damrongtham Center in Phuket’s Provincial Hall; the Phuket Red Cross; or any other regional government office.
