The girl in the photo is nice... I remember when we used to put on a jacket and tie to fly on an airplane. Oh well.

many rainy seasons ago i found it once in a while quite amusing to board (with a horrified wife) a plane wearing jeans and t-shirt trying to turn left in the aircraft. and when i was politely told "this way please Sir" i pulled the boarding passes out of my hip pocket and answered with a surprised face "you mean the seats 4H and 4K have been moved to cattle class?" laugh.png

The jacket & tie was from when my golfing family traveled in the early 60's.

In the mid-90's I once had to buy a first class ticket from Hong Kong to San Francisco or else be stuck in HKG for a week for no reason. I ended up sitting next to the resident of Mitsubishi non-Ferrous (Copper) heading from Tokyo to Chile via SFO. I was dressed in blue jeans and a sweater. He was very nice and had loads of question about SFO and California. However his lieutenants, traveling business class, repeatedly came forward to confer with the boss and scowled at me every time they saw me sitting next to their impeccably dressed boss.

I expected tips on how to make the flight better, but mostly other stuff, so not very helpful at all.

Personally, I think all items like tablets should be banned from use during flight. In the event of a sudden drop, as has happened, they become lethal missiles flying around the cabin.

It also makes me cringe when I see women on board wearing very little and high heels. They will suffer in the event of a crash. Non inflammable clothing that covers as much as possible is the best. People have become complacent about the risks of air travel.

Do you board every flight wearing a crash helmet ?

That would make me very nervous if I was on the same flight :)

Really, who boards a plane expecting the worst !

I have not read this thread, but every time I see a post from cornishcarlos, I crave an empenada. Can it be made/had in Thailand??

The danger in an aircraft crash is fire, not head injury.

If you expect to never be involved in an accident, I take it you don't bother to wear a crash helmet on a m'bike or use a seat belt in a car.

I travel in hope that nothing bad will happen, but prepare for the worst.

To do otherwise is to bury one's head in the sand.

Had to google empenada :)

We don't have them in Cornwall but we do have the mighty pasty...

I expect to be involved in a road accident at some point in Thailand, for sure... Always wear helmet on my bike and seatbelt in my car.

Pretty sure the odds of being involved in a road accident are way higher than being on a plane when it crashes though..

So when I fly, I dress in comfortable clothes, cause if it does go down, I'm not expecting to survive...

Hmmmm. I didn't realise that non inflammable clothing was un comfortable. Most people wear jeans and a cotton shirt at times and don't complain about them.

I don't know the stats, but I reckon there is more chance of an accident while taking off and landing, and due to aircraft construction probably survivable, unless burnt to death. Synthetic clothing melts in a fire, making burns worse.
