Man stomps lover to death after not getting his drinks

domestic violence is always the same whether it is in Thailand or Europe and people don't like to interfere in case they are dragged into a situation not of their choosing .

This makes no sense whatsoever. The family members were present, filmed it, and did nothing until the poor woman was dead. Do you see this situation happening in a civilized nation? If there is a family dispute happening in front of you, when a life is in danger, you don't just sit on your arse like these creeps did.

and what would have happened if a passing Farang decided he just couldn't stand watching this and pushed the venerable old man away..? probably beaten up by the watchers for his trouble....

Then charged with what, enough witnesses to accuse him of all sort of things ?

If you watch the Thai soaps you know that domestic violence is completely acceptable.

I think it is more of an Asian thing that people don't have any concept of good neighbor sensibilities. The same thing would happen in China, and many other places here too. And sadly the west is becoming this way as well.

In Asia, the #1 country in domestic violence is Japan.

I would agree with the "Asian thing"

I hate to admit this but in 1969 in Malaysia, my Chinese g/f and I were having a mega row, screaming and yelling at each other.

At one point she threw a huge jungle type knife at me which bounced round the walls in our small court yard, narrowly missing me.

Neighbours called the police.

I was grateful to see them and asked them to take me away. They started to comply and my g/f ran over to them and spoke with them for a few moments.

The police then ignored me and got ready to leave.

I asked what happened and they said - only a domestic matter - nothing to do with anybody else but me and the g/f and would we kindly keep the noise down so not to disturb our neighbours any more.......

In the UK one or other or both would have been arrested for breach of the peace at very least.

As another example, I also believe that Nigerians would behave in the same manner and not intervene.

A man's problems are his!

Thaddeus has highlighted a very important point with his one liner.

These videos and reports we are seeing are just the tiniest tip of the iceberg of domestic violence here in Thailand.

In first world places such as Japan there are channels and support networks through which victims can report their stories.

What channels are available to a middle age Thai woman who lives in Nakon Nowhere and works as a rice farmer to buy whiskey each day for her violent alcoholic partner?

how many onlookers do you require to represent thai society?

Onlookers didn't intervene. What kind of sick society is this?

here we go Thai bashing again and claim some onlookers are representative for a society! it's you who is sick! w00t.gif

never ceases to amaze me on TV.that anyone dare criticize thai society is branded a thai basher!....anyone that does this should apply for a position in the latest gvt....perfect job for you PC brigade!

Because the criticism is often veiled racism laced with malicious intent(ie, bad mouthing an entire country, its people and culture). Note how many posts exclaiming '..what a sick society it is'.
If the same were done about the US, you can bet there would be plenty of TV posts coming to its defense and proclaiming US bashing.
That being said, isnt the US a pretty sick society given the high level of violence, road rage and gun deaths that occur in such a *developed and prosperous* country?
Maybe all of you farang who complain so much about Thais and their country should reflect on why you have such a negative outlook and poor attitude - you often get as good as you give.
