Well in 5 years of living here, I have never known a bottle of milk go off whilst kept in the fridge - must be pumped full of so many preservatives.

Just been into 7-11 as my 91b bottle of meiji 0% milk was off even though use by date was 13/05/2015.

Took to counter (didn't have receipt - i'd have been happier if they refused me for this) and they said... Sorry Mister, can not change because you open! I complain some more in crap thai - other thais chip in saying - you cant change it and I thank them for reiterating what the counter staff are saying to me.

I take a new one to the counter for a free replacement... sorry... that's the same model, cannot change... it will taste the same.

Ha ha... I am asking them, how do I know if it tastes good or not before I open it? Anyway I open the old bottle for them to smell, they smell it, and of course, they don't know what good or bad milk smells like as they don't actually drink the stuff unless its soy based.

Well, took about 5 minutes, but eventually, I got them to change it when I asked to speak to manager on the phone.

Just tasted new bottle in a coffee and it is fine... not off.

They don't need to add preservatives, they pasteurize the milk so harsh that is is almost a sterilizing. Sterilized milk ca stay long....years maybe

Some places turn down the temperature at night, maybe off for a while as well.

Cold items are never as cold as they should be.

Wonder how long it sat in the create out the back in the sun before it was actually put into refrigeration. The soi dogs need somewhere to take a piss first.

I used to use the Dutch Milk from 7-11 but stopped recently because there is no sealing foil between the lid and the top of the bottle and I found that several times the plastic seal around the neck was not complete or had gaps. In these cases I found the milk to not taste particularly fresh. I have since gone back to Meiji and it is fine.

I buy Meiji all the time and will always start smelling a little when it reaches the use by date on the bottle or even before - maybe my fridge is not up to scratch...

I bought one earlier this week from Makro (the smaller 45 baht bottle with a date past the OPs one) and when I used it back at home it already had the start of that faintly off aroma. I reckon as burgerking suggests it was left out of a fridge environment for a while at some point.
