BANGKOK: -- A most wanted suspect in the human trafficking scandal that involved local government authorities and influential people in the South has escaped police arrest but his assets were impounded for investigation.

Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Ake Angsananont, who is in charge of the Rohinya human trafficking investigation, said Patchuban Angchotipan, a former president of Satun’s provincial administration organization and operator of a tourist resort hotel and boat services on Lipe Island, was not in his house when a combined force of 300 police, soldiers and local officials searched his house and several others related to his network yesterday.

Patchuban or known as Ko Tong is believed to be behind a network in Satun which police suspected was responsible for human trafficking of Rohinya Muslim and Bangladeshi migrants into Thailand and across the border to Malaysia.

Police impounded his assets which also included a luxury Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Fortuner van.

Housekeepers told police that Ko Tong and his wife have escaped days before the police arrived.

Police have sought warrants from the court to arrest more than 50 aspects and 15 were arrested.

Ko Tong’s relative, Somyos Angchotiphan, 45, who turned himself in to police last week is now being detained.

He is among the 50 suspects wanted in connection with human trafficking in the South and believed to head a human-trafficking operation in his hometown of Ranong province.

He was brought to Nathawi provincial court for extension of his detention for 12 more days yesterday.

Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Phumphanmuang said Ko Tong is a key suspect behind the human trafficking in the South.

He said Rohinya human trafficking is not the problem of Thailand but need joint effort from Malaysia and Myanmar to resolve.

He said he would meet Malaysian police chief today to discuss the problem.

His assets weren't seized just what was left behind and i'm sure the cash aspect was taken care of before he and wife legged it.

Reporting an article with that headline is insulting.

Stop patronizing Thais and the RTP with headlines "escapes Thai police."

Nobody in this story escaped law enforcement. Nobody. Someone bribed their way out of being detained and arrested but nobody escaped a "force of 300 police officers."

I think that almost anyone in Thailand could escape 300 police officers if the price is right. OK so he got away... now go get him. Do we send the same 300 cops or the military?

''He said Rohinya human trafficking is not the problem of Thailand ''. Has anything or will anything ever be their fault ?

After all, these people a not coming from the LOS and not going to the LOS.

The only thing Thailand has to do with this is, going to pick up these people, smuggle them in on Thai owned boats, set them up in prisons on Thai soil, collect ransoms, kill and bury the ones that dont pay, payoff police, military and officials to look the other way and smuggle them off to their intended destination.

It is easy to see the mans positionblink.png

I don't suppose the top jockey could have told one of his bib's to 'Pop down to chummy's and report back when you know he is in his house'. More likely it was a phone call like 'The heat is on mate, we are coming down to your pad in an hour. Get your skates on and flee the scene or we could be in deep brown stuff'!coffee1.gif

Why is it mandatory to inform the media who the suspects are and the police are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant?

No need to bribe anyone the blasted media just shout their mouths off.

What about forgetting about those meaningless "crackdowns" and concentrate the energy to save the lives of more than 8000 people on board floating prisons off Thailands coast!!

A genocide is taking place, as we type, and nobody cares!!

Mr P. Time to forget about the lottery prices for a second, and prove to us all, you are indeed a man of action.

Stop the blame games, and do the right thing, which is to allow those poor people to enter Thailand. Whatever comes after, is a later problem, right now give those poor people the helping hand, they so desperately need!!

From the news yesterday>>:The suspect, the 50th and latest wanted in connection with human labour trafficking in the region, has been identified as fugitive Pajjuban Angchotiphan, or Ko Tong. He is a brother of a high-ranking local politician based in Satun.<<

Surprise, surprise, Mr Ko Tong wasn't home waiting for the Police Force!!

By giving him fair warning, is of course a guarantee for him not implicating someone higher up the food chain!!

He is in Langkawi, Malaysia. It is very easy to get a boat to Langkawi. He left before the warrant was issued. He is also wanted for selling and leasing park land in Lipe. He is a real peice of s--t. This guy has been ripping people off for years. He tried it with me and I told him to F off. He tried to force people to sell their land to him for low prices and then he sold it at ridiculously high prices to people who wanted to open businesses on Lipe. He guaranteed that the land was legal but most of it was not. If you have been watching Thia PBS they have news about Lipe almost every day about all of the land encroachment on the park lands. He is the one who is at the root of it all. I hope they track him down in Malaysia and bring him back. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail for ripping off all of these people.

They had enough advance warning that they could have taken a slow boat to China.

AND the fact that the police had to hire 60 taxi's as there were insufficient police cars. This all takes time. AND it is only possible to withdraw 20 or 30 thousand

baht from the cash machines, this of course is not enough to pay for the hole in the police cordon. This also takes time to fix.

Reminds me of Red Bull facepalm.giffacepalm.giffacepalm.gif

555...yes, who would have thought he would have read the news, watched the TV, opened his email and answered his phone, all just to avoid a stealth raid of 300 troops on his house. Completely shocking! 555

I also laughed when I read that his 'assets' had been seized; i.e. a car and a van. You can be sure that the balance of his real assets, such as bank accounts and offshore stashes of cash, less, of course, payment for his 'early warning' system--were not seized.
