Thai food exports expected to bring in 600 billion baht this year

The Food Institute estimates this year’s Thai food exports will hit 600 billion baht.

Acting director Yuthasak Supasorn (ยุทธศักดิ์ สุภสร) said food products have been processed to add value before being exported while exports of major products, including shrimp, canned tuna and pineapple should increase by 10% this year despite high oil prices and interest rates as well as adjustment of rules and regulations by trade partners.

Mr. Yuthasak said rising competition in the rice market by Vietnam has not affected Thai rice sales because of differences in quality.

Chickens also have been cooked before exports to avoid impact from the bird flu disease, he said.
