Revoke Thaksin's red passport, says Democrat ex-MP
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The government should revoke the diplomatic passport issued to ousted and fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, a former MP of the Democrat Party, Watchara Petthong, said.

Watchara cited Thaksin's latest scheduled talk in South Korea next Monday as proof that Thaksin is still engaging in political activities.

Watchara said Prime Minister General Prayut Chanocha, who is also head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), should exercise his power under Article 44 of the provisional charter to revoke Thaksin's diplomatic passport. The red diplomatic passport is normally issued to all former PMs.

Who cares, what passport Mr T is travelling with??

As long as he stays away from Thailand!!

Just ignore him, that would be the harshest punishment..........................coffee1.gif

Seems like the Democrats are building up the Thaksin/Red Shirt rhetoric..... again.........

I thought they were banned from this kind of divisive talk, or is it only one party that is banned from doing it........

Why should a criminal on the run have the luxury of a diplomatic passport?

The guy fly's in on a private jet, do you really think it makes any REAL difference if he has a DP or a regular passport, its not like he will be queuing with Somchai and Joe Bloggs.

The simple fact is that many countries do not see him the same as some people do in Thailand.

Because I'd say "He knows where the bodies are buried" Got a hat-full of scandal on many rich and powerful I'd say a\And why would the current Government antagonize him while he's keeping quiet. I dare say he could get several nations passports if he wanted

Excellent idea.It shows in addition how intelligently this Democrat is focusing on the most important problems facing the Thailand.Meanwhile Thailand's dynamic political example of crushing democracy with a military coup has been followed by Burundi.Clearly a new special relationship is on the cards.A key aspect could be some really tight regulations preventing Thaksin from spending time in that delightful part of Africa.Prayuth could have a state visit there before long since unaccountably invitations have been rather sparse from elsewhere.

Suddenly the Dems are concerned about this Montenegran citizen's passport? I think they're more worried about his expected bleating at the upcoming meeting, and the fact that HE was invited and not THEM. But anyway - withdraw the freaking thing. He shouldn't be entitled to it.

Shouldn't this passport have been canceled when he took a runner and became a wanted felon? Ex pm or not he is fleeing from the law.

No one wants to set a precedent whichever side of the divide you are on.... you never know what your siblings will do

Why does Thaksin have ANY Thai passport? I thought convicted felons weren't supposed to be allowed a passport of any kind. He can still travel the world on his Zimbabwe, Venezuela, or Montenegro passports.

Precedents have been set. The Democrats cancelled his passport in 2009. His sister gave him a new one, hand delivered, soon after she came to power, during the floods, while the government department was closed.

I think in every other country a convicted criminal on the run would not only have his diplomatic passport re voked but his normal passport as well

only in Thailand ....

btw. isn't his public appearance a good opportunity to arrest him?

So cancel it then.... but they won't... because him, like people like Charlerm know far to much about their integrity as well...

Why should a criminal on the run have the luxury of a diplomatic passport?

Because a deal was made......

Or did you see the government seize any corruption money from this family?

Some cases at the airport are so obvious (Thaksins other sister) that a blind would see it.

^^^ Sweatalot - there is no international arrest warrant issued for him, so he's free as a bird ATM. So no 1zgarz5.gif

Well, in that case he should come back, wouldn't you say so. No worries.

Mind you, the Ombudsman is still waiting for an explanation on the sneakily re-issued passport. Issued end of October, 2011 when the offices were flooded and lied about and denied till mid December 2011.

History will tell us. Even General Washington seems to have recovered remarkably well.

Anyway, a criminal fugitive will normally see his passport revoked and not sneakily re-issued by his sisters government while the Nation is distracted by a floodwaters running through the livingroom.

It would be interesting to find out to which countries the holder of Thai diplomatic passport can travel without a visa.

In case a visa is required it will only be issued if it is supported by a letter issued by the Thai Foreign Ministry.

The question arises for a diplomatic passport issued by the government of Montenegro.

Thaksin's red passport 'must be revoked'
THE NATION

THE GOVERNMENT should revoke the diplomatic passport issued to ousted and fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, says former Democrat Party MP Watchara Petthong.

Watchara cited Thaksin's latest scheduled talk in South Korea next Monday as proof that the ex-PM is still engaging in political activities.

Watchara said Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is also head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), should exercise his power under Article 44 of the provisional charter to revoke Thaksin's diplomatic passport.

The red diplomatic passport is normally issued to all former PMs.

In a related development, Pheu Thai Party caretaker deputy spokesman Anusorn Iamsa-ad said the government should not be alarmed by Thaksin's speaking engagement.

He said Thaksin was a former head of government who had been in power for six years and would definitely know how to conduct himself and would be responsible for his own words.

Anusorn denied that the speaking engagement was a political move, adding that the current government was free to follow Thaksin's talk.

I have always thought that the passport illegally issued back in 2011 by Thaksins BIL must be diplomatic and now we see proof.

When Yingluck was on tour one of the things that it was reported that she did was to arrange visa free entry for holders of Thai diplomatic passports into all the countries she visited, this was reported as being reciprocal. Made it easy for big brother to travel the world.

Not revoking that passport is one on the holds that the present Govt has over Thaksin, as in behave yourself or else.

And no he would not be so free to move around on his other bought passports.

As for Thaksin knowing how to conduct himself and being responsible for his words........ Well not knowing when he had gone to far has brought us to the situation we are in now, read amnesty bill.

There is a fairly long list of cads, bounders and ungentlemanly characters jetting around the world with carefree abandon, so at least he doesn't need to feel lonely.

Actually many countries see a politician who won successive elections overthrown in a military coup. One of a series of politicians who won elections overthrown by military coups.
