Rocket loses control, kills 2 at Sri Saket festival

It's all well and good to criticise and berate the local culture and their customs. But the truth of the matter is it serves no purpose other than to show what a pack of whining self righteous farang arse holes some on this forum are. If you find so much of Thai custom & culture so offensive, it may well be time to pack up and piss off back to the land from where you came.

Mmmmmmm.

Over 1000 injuries and a handful of deaths in the UK last year due to fireworks. Ban 5th November?

Some people on here really love a Thai bash, don't they?

You"ve done you homework but when has a rocket on 5th November ever killed 2 people?

It's like comparing chalk with cheese IMO

How about when the fireworks factories in various countries that possibly supply the UK go bang and kill their workers? Does this not count for the total statistics of 5th of November?

Having been to a few of these festivals it is not the local rice farmers manufacturing the rockets, rather for want of a better word specialists who follow the circuit manufacturing and selling various size projectiles. I have also seen the expended projectiles coming down by parachute, but would still not wish to be hit by one. Watching the festival from Phanom Phrai last year from the village. Great fun until I realised that we were downrange of the launch site. Time to shift camp to the launch site, much safer.

To bring another perspective on the 10th of May this year a six year old spectator was killed after an accident at a rally event in WA, Over the years there have been numerous fatalities at rally events in WA. Also a few at other motor racing events in the same state. I could go on and recite lots of tragedies worldwide, but for what purpose? Unfortunately some activities are dangerous and spectators get killed. These occur in both western countries and Thailand. Basically the rule seems to be to be 100% safe stay away from all hazardous activities and enjoy a nice safe boring life.

The Thai's love their rocket festivals and I do not see them complaining. So if you have a problem with the rocket festivals simply do not attend. Personally I will be going to one this weekend. Assuming I do not get killed on the drive to and from, mugged and killed by rampant lady boys and survive mis-directed rockets I will have a great time. The odds are with me I believe.

Cheers

It's tragic to have fatalities when people are voluntarily doing what they enjoy. Or voluntarily watching an event with well known risks.

But how many folk were killed on the highway getting to the festival? How many will be killed on their way home?

How many killed going out for bread and milk this morning?

The only way to be truly safe is to stay home on the couch. And even that comes with risks.
