Phuket fruit shop owner shot 'in dispute with her family'

Police are hunting the gunman, who has yet to be identified.

PHUKET: -- The owner of a fruit shop near the Nimit Circle in Phuket Town was critically wounded at about 4pm today (May 18) when she was shot by an assailant who so far has not been identified.

Sirung Kosuk, 46, was in her shop when a lone man on a red and black Honda Dream motorbike stopped and fired at her. He hit her in the right eye, the bullet exiting through her right cheek.

Mrs Sirung was taken to the Phuket Provincial Hospital and although gravely injured was still alive later this afternoon.

Witnesses described the shooter as dark-skinned, about 1.6 metres tall and with hair in a duck tail at the back.

Police said that they had discovered Mrs Sirung was involved in a family dispute and they have a suspect in mind.

PHUKET: -- Police last night (May 18) arrested the nephew of of a fruit shop owner who was shot in the face in her shop yesterday.

Sirung Kosuk, 46, was shot by a lone man on a motorcycle at 4pm yesterday. The bullet hit her in the eye. She died three hours later in the OrBorJor hospital.

Her nephew, Suntiparb Kosuk, 29, was arrested about an hour before she died. He has been charged with murder.

He told police that Ms Sirung had been involved in a dispute with his side of the family.
