i don't know if i read this correctly but did he say people can be treated in thai hospitals but will be charged with illegal entry, ohhh

That's what it says. Might be crap reporting though.

So the doctor says - you need hospital we can take you and treat you. Then policeman says - of course we will have to charge you for illegal entry. But it's up to you.

What a complete load of catch 22 <deleted>.

You ought to read up on the history of the slave trade through the centuries. You might be surprised. And who knows, might help with you bigotry too.

There has been a significant increase in the last few years of the number of people who would prefer their information to be delivered, it saves all that time spent on research.

The slave trade did not involve black Africans being taken to Bristol . It was known as the triangle trade, trade goods were taken from Bristol to West Africa, traded for slaves who were shipped to the West Indies, where they were sold and the ships

returned laden with tobacco, spirits and sugar. It was a foul business, which relied upon the Africans to supply the slaves. It was stamped out by the British and US governments, using their respective navies in an early example of co - operation between the two English speaking nations.

Quote : "If anyone is injured or sick, they can be treated at hospitals in Thailand but will face illegal entry charges -- it is up to them to decide."

Reading this, one has to wonder who is sick.

"which relied upon the Africans to supply the slaves." - do I detect an attempt to mitigate racism here?

The ships involved in taking the slaves to Africa came from Bristol.......at certain points in time they actually had a monopoly and shipped over 3 million slaves. Bristol has had a black community for 400 years that stemmed in some instances from spin-off from the slave trade.

Although slavery existed throughout the world it was the Europeans especially the British and Portuguese who increased it beyond recognition and exported millions to the Americas. not only buying off traders but actively involved in capturing slaves themselves.....this had profound effects on demographics in african nations plundered to satisfy this demand.

the concept of Racism came to the fore in this period as it was used by those involved to justify the horrors of the slave trade. There was about a 50% death rate of those captured for slavery.....although most died prematurely.

it is interesting, and also sad, that the victims of smugglers continue to be labelled "migrants" which, rhetorically, allows an inhumane reaction to people being exploited, abused, and murdered to be some how justifiable.

It is not justifiable. It is not humane. These people should be taken in by any and every country immediately. Get them into safety and get them the help they need. Don't threaten these victims with prosecution - what a callous and idiotic thing to do!

So where do you stop Mr Bleeding Heart? Should the wealthy countries accept every person who thinks life will be better there? Every one of them will have a sob story to tell, and as we have found in Oz quite often it's nothing but BS. The latest is ex-muslims converted to christianity - should we send them home to be murdered or accept every muslim who thinks a temporary change of faith is worth it (and acceptable under their religion)?

Once you open the gate, it is very difficult to shut it again. If the EU had refused to accept economic immigrants from Africa, would there be thousands dying in the Med this year? Why are we wasting billions in foreign aid when they are heading here to cost us a fortune?

Yes.

Foreign aid is only export aid in many cases.

Do you detect racism?

Not at all. I am vehemently opposed to racism. I was merely pointing out that elements within the African society were complicit in the trade. It neither excuses the abhorrent trade, nor the bastards who carried it on.

Why not? They would be illegal immigrants. They didn't come through a border crossing and present the necessary paperwork, so they are illegal. No?

not if taken there by thai officials, knowingly by the thai government,no

A lot of the slaves from Africa were sold by Arab traders and a lot from one tribe beating another during tribal wars and selling the survivors into slavery.

What is your point here? everyone who has any knowledge of the history of slavery knows that just about every region of the world engaged in it at sometime...so what are you trying to say?
