Ladies and Gens,

I am planning a trip to Samui between Oct 1 to Oct 15. Can someone living in Samui tell me just how much rain there'll be? How many sunny hours per day? Is it raining all day long for days? Is the beach calm enough to swim and dive?

Thanks for any information.

Bambina has probably given you the best advice you are going to get. Every year is different and we have certainly had more rain so far this year than usual and of course everyone knows how bad it was last winter. Last year the Koh Samui rainy season started at the beginning of October but in previous years it was much later. This year the SW Monsoon seemed to start later than usual so perhaps it will end later in which case the NE Monsoon which brings the Koh Samui rainy season will start later. Who knows?

Thanks for the info. Last mid October when I was in Pattaya, it was 50/50 sun and rain. I was surprised after checking the weather charts that Samui has lots of rain in October and November.

Thanks again for the info.

No sun between November and January. I became so moody, that I went to Isan on the search for good and sunny weather!

But October should be still ok I guess.

Weather in Pattaya and Koh Samui is quite different. The NE monsoon reaches up to Koh Samui. It may rain on the south side of the island, and not on the north side.

As the other contributers said: The weather patterns are changing. Predictions are unreliable.

My piece of advice: Don't bring a raincoat (too hot), but an umbrella. Or buy one there. Is very cheap.

I stayed in Samui for 9 months and I could have counted on my hands the amount of sunny days there were ! I would say its more a question of how many hours of sun per WEEK you might get, not per day ! And when it rains it rains non stop with no breaks.

One plus point with Samui is the sea is very calm, compared to the likes of Phuket or the west coast where its quite rough in the rainy season.
