BOT governor dismisses appointment rumour

BANGKOK: --Bank of Thailand Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul Thursday dismissed the rumour that he was approached to join the junta's economic team.

There was a rumour that he would join the team, which is now headed by MR Pridiyathorn Devakula.

The governor also extended his sympathy to all in the team, saying that they are shouldering heavy burden amid internal and external factors which are both cyclical and structural.

Prasarn’s term as the central bank governor is set to expire on September 30. The selection process for his replacement was recently kicked off. The new governor is expected to be announced next month.

The incumbent governor commented that all the applicants are all capable.
