We are All Equal In The Eyes Of The Law?

Featured Replies

Just back from town.

Stopped by a traffic light to turn left. Kept as far left as I could, leaving a little space between me and the car on my right. Of course fellow Thai motorbike riders had to squeeze through that small space in their eager to make the left turn, after 3 of them had hit/touched my right mirror, I decided to go with the flow and make my left turn. Illegal, as there was a sign saying "Left turn, follow the traffic lights"

200 meters down the road, I was stopped by a police officer on a bike, for making an illegal left turn.

When I questioned, why he had not stopped the at least 10 Thai's making exactly the same illegal turn, he got very upset and almost threw his ticket-block at me to prove, that he indeed did fine Thai people.

It it not the small fine or the inconvenience of having to go to the cop shop to get my licence back, But seriously sometimes you get tired of their racial profiling here.

Not the end of the world, just needed to get it off my chest!!

He did show you the book that he had fined some Thai people also.

So why are you complaining?

You did the wrong thing, you were caught and you were fined.

Don't do it again and then you will not have the opportunity to cry on TVF.

poor farang got a ticket for an illegal left turn - blames racism.

nothing to see here.

maybe thats another law they could change,,, falang can turn left,,,

You got court for driving wrong so whats the big story and calling now the Thai card?

yes he learned from other populations which always blame racism :-)

I had Black friends like that in the UK, always bleating on about the cops only stopped them because they where Black, how about when they stopped me, was it because I was white ?

Loads of Thais get stopped for motoring offences everyday, in fact if you go on a Highway up country you're less likely to get stopped for a spot check and have your car searched simply because you're a Farang, The Thais have a much tougher time with the cops, we get away with a lot.

just bad luck that this Police Trap wasn't one of those set up specifically for stopping and picking on motorbikes.

maybe theirs was setup ready, around the next bend, or for the next day?

I got captured once doing a right turn against a traffic light .

It was my fault - policeman was very pleasant and even gave me a big Thai smile as he pulled me over - I paid my fine and left .

I should know better than to reply, but here we go:

I am complaining because, he only started his motorbike to catch the pesky farang, after at least 10 Thai's had committed be same offence right in front of him, without him reacting..........

The names in his book had no relevance to the situation at hand.................coffee1.gif

Not the end of the world, just needed to get it off my chest!!

Credit to you that you realize this. Just one of the nuisances of living here. More than offset (usually) by the benefits.

It's still irritating.... But think of the stories we can tell the folks back home.

Spot on...also me as much as I love it here have to admit that there are annoying things around...get it off your chest and things seems brighter...

Perhaps he'd already ticketed those Thai's earlier, they only give you one ticket a day, I don't know for all offences, but for helmets it used to be, get stopped again the same day , show the ticket, you're good to go.

What a cry baby lol, just pay the small fine and get over with it

What a cry baby lol, just pay the small fine and get over with it

What a load of rubbish you and the other Thai Police apologist on the forum puke out. Just how long have you lot been driving here, or do you in fact drive here, I think not in most cases?

For a start like he said he was just getting it off his chest.

He didn't say he was right just annoyed as I am very often of the way that the Thai policemen select their Farang victim, sorry lawbreakers for a summary conviction and penalty without seemingly taking any notice of those myriad Thai drivers who may well be apparently committing the same offences previously and at the same time as the offence took place but in "droves" and not getting stopped, could it be that the Farang driver is much more attractive to a Thai Bobby?

I feel the same way as the OP in this matter and yes if you do get caught out dont scream but we are not talking here about getting fairly caught out are we, we are talking about the unfair selection of those Farangs who are booked and the majority of Thai drivers who are not ,whether the cop had a bookful of Thai entries is irrelevant and in any case most of the population on here couldn't know whether they were for the same offences or not, So why rely on unreliable information from a self justifying cop?

I drive many Ks on Thai roads in a year, three or four times times up to Issan and in Pattaya for the rest of the time and must apart from Pattaya admit to never being stopped unless I was in the wrong.

I personally dont have a problem but for you and others to try to make this OPs comment into something shabby is just not on and shows complete ignorance to what really goes on , on Pattaya roads!

You must be new to this planet.

I thought the OP indicated all the Thais turning left were on motorcycles?

How is that racist?

I can't count the number of time I've driven by "traps" loaded with Thais on motorcycles being shaken down.

The persecuted and the oppressed in Thailand. Life must be very stressful for you here.

The fact is it was you who got caught breaking the law. Tough luck and next time avoid any confrontations with the police by not breaking the laws and then you can`t claim to have been victimised.

No actually I love living here, but it still irritates me to get picked to pay a fine just because the color of my skin!!
Since you are the honorary farang spokesperson for the RTP, your reply is not exactly a surprise.............

If you take a sample of Thais and ask each of them if they are racist, you would find hardly any that are not. You can try it.

Yet according to the enlightened ones here on the forum, oh noooo....they are not racist.

Are you so unsure in your decision to live in Thailand that you cannot hear even one word against the place? If Thailand is so truly perfect, shouldn't that perfection confound attempts to criticize it? Would you really need to buttress its fragile reputation at every slight? These insecurities do nothing to help your case and everything to weaken it.

For centuries the Western world wallowed in the ignorance of the Dark Ages until it was shepherded into the enlightenment by those were not afraid to criticize tradition. If Thais ever wish to obviate the need for excuse-making on their behalf about the "developing county" and the people "as children" both we and they need the freedom to witness its defects with open eyes. Be part of that instead of blindly pandering to their insecurities and help make Thailand as strong you pretend it is.

How do you define "racist" in English?

How does that translate to Thai?

Is a policeman that stops cars and not motorcycles for making illegal left turn a racist?

I'm not saying Thais aren't racist, I just don't think racisim is the reason the cop stopped the OP's car after letting the motorcycles go.

What color was the car?

That would be a Thai on a motorbike or driving a car. They think it's their job to be a racist. whistling.gif

Is that the best you can do?

That you are unable to formulate a response that actually addresses anything I've said does not surprise me.

cheesy.gif i wont go into detail but no we are not. too many cases and incidents to list here , i just do not have the time. ok i will give you the last one, driving down a main rd and sober 6am in morning, a taxi driver with a farang and drunken thai girl on back, taxi driver comes from behind bangs into me , thai girl has been shouting and swinging a bottle of whiskey about, taxi driver loses balance and comes into me, causing my bike no real damage only a scratch, no damage to his, police are called, girl has a scrape on her ankle, she states farang fault, her english boyfriend even backs metyo cops, this happened at crossroads at soi buakao, lankee, dianna so there are cameras, i point to cameras telling police to look at them, cop shouts at me to ,stop my mouth now, ok i stop. i have to pay 2000 baht , 1ooo to taxi driver and 1000 to the whore who says she needs to go hospital.

is that enough ? theres more, awhole lot more coffee1.gif

In the OP I wrote that I was passed by "fellow Thai motorbike riders"..............

Never mind, it is not important!!
