Define "corruption".

A country can not be corrupt. The thought process of the people is corrupted. Though is controlled by language. language is controlled by grammar. All languages in the world are corrupt through grammar.

The(adverb) Most(adjective) Corrupt(adjective) Countries(pronoun) in(adverb) the(adverb) World(dangling participal verb)

The standard of grammar you have chosen to use throughout your contribution would seem to demonstrate the point you are making.

I would venture to suggest that examples of corruption could be found both in people with perfect grammar, and those who struggle to compose a sentence.

USA, England, and Germany are should be #1

You're probably familiar with those countries. How familiar are you with the inner workings of Somalia or N.Korea?

It's interesting to note the countries scoring at the bottom, therefore the least corrupt. All are western countries, except Singapore, and NZ is at the bottom. Way to go Kiwis! All Scandinavian countries scored at the bottom also. Speaking of Scandinavian bottoms, how's Agnetha of Abba?

I almost believed those numbers until I read another list that they provide " Best place to meet women" England rated 19th and they put Thailand way down the list at 95th. Hahaha.... Not sure where they get their information but sure not from the English men who come to Thailand nor men who go to England. List must be made by women or Toms.

Transparency International (they) does not provide a list of places to meet women. You sir are a liar.biggrin.png Feel free to correct me and link the survey you claim to exist and I will profusely apologize.

What survey are you trying to make up? The real one is below.

open the link you see in the OP and after all the countries rating proceed to the bottom and you will see about 5 or 6 other lists you can select. Select the one regarding women.

Then you can profusely apologize for calling me a liar .... Then I will have a few words for you. :)

And if you can read .... Read my statement again. It said " I almost believed those numbers until I read another list that they provide" they being RANKERS. They are the ones who provided the list, not made the list. Now get on your knees .....

OP, "Many countries have made it to this list, thanks to its corrupt politicians with illegal money making skills. In these countries of the world, bribery and corruption are rampant. Somalia is ranked the top most corrupt country. You can sort this list of corrupt countries of the world by any column to get the most corrupt countries or least corrupt countries.

Source: Transparency International, 2009, 2013."

Transparency international did not provide a list of places to meet women. You are in error. The surveys you mentioned have nothing to do with Transparency international and you are trying to spread a falsehood. It is very clear by reading the OP above who provided the list. The OP says, " Source: Transparency International, 2009, 2013"

How to measure which country is more corrupt anyway? A good method would be to look at the following; can you bribe yourself out of murder even when the public knows you are guilty? If yes, you belong in the top 20. Another good measurement would be; can you secure a top position in government if you have the cash to buy yourself in? If yes, you belong in the top 20.

Putting Thailand at #94 is very very funny. India at #96? That's even funnier.

It would make more sense to turn this top 100 into a top 20, just allowing several countries to be in the same position.

You think money cannot buy you an out-of-jail ticket in the US if you have the money and name to go with it?

When the laws of a country, those who give you or take away from you rights, are written by large corporations, who then hand those drafts via their lobbyist to your legislators behind closed doors, who submit them to a vote verbatim, then you have the worst corruption a man can suffer. Having to pay tea money to a civil servant to do their work can never have such an impact on society as a whole. The US has institutionalized corruption in the form of lobby-ism, and no one can even complain about it because corporations and legislators have been clever enough to make everything they do legal. So, when it's legal, it's right for the people. Right?

If you still believe a cop getting a few bucks to get you off a ticket is such a horrifying corrupt individual, do a little search on ALEC, and how this "nonprofit" (what a joke) organization manipulates the laws as dictated by the corporations that "sponsor" a huge number of legislators in all of US congresses. Yes, that means dollars from the corporations into the legislators' pockets. Oh, and since ALEC has an educational purpose -it "educates" congressmen and women- the money they spend organizing close-door events and motivating politicians are actually tax-payers' money.

Actually I shouldn't say the worst... even small corruption should be banned, but I just wish all those who mock Thailand and other countries would open their eyes and minds and see the whole picture instead of just what happens around them.

The difference between corruption in the developing countries vs corruption in the West is in the West corruption is mainly at the top whereas in developing countries like Thailand or Mexico it is right through system.

What this does is make the US citizens think their country is not corrupt because the police are not asking for payoffs. At the same time they are vastly ignorant of the sophisticated system hiding the corruption at the top.

Transparency International clearly hasn't done its homework. South Africa ranks right up there, and yet is shown as number 127 on this list. It has a corrupt President, a corrupt Government, and a corrupt Public Service and Police Force. Corruption is so deeply entrenched that it has become a way of life. Zimbabwe likewise should be ranked much higher.

yeah not many people are comfortable conversing in prepositional phrases. its just an example to prove my point. We cant expect to be correct when our syntax is corrupted.

I knew there was a good reason that I do not holiday in Africa!

But I did travel to Guatemala and Honduras to see the ruins and

actually enjoyed the trip. I see corruption all over the world, but what scares me

the most, is hearing that ISIL may get their hands on a Nuclear weapon!

Any place where these guys and other terrorists are, is the last place where I

want to be at. Corruption is bad enough compared to all of those wack jobs.

After all this time, humanity is still deeply lost.

93 countries more corrupt than Thailand. Says it all really.

a report like this is nonsense, only when perpetrators and the actual corruption is uncovered and those responsible found guilty in a court will it count - a rare occurrence in Thailand before this government took office and even then although some high profile cases have come to light it is still only scratching the surface, IMO Thailand is at least in the top 10

Correct - it's like trying to count the number of crimes before they've been committed.

As expected, this list has really pissed off the Thai bashers. May they R.I.P.

Naw, there are plenty of things to bash about. Personally, I find the weather here really oppressive lately.

If Thailand is 94, then I wonder how inconvenient it must be to live in some of the other countries.

Vietnam above Thailand... very surprising indeed. That said Thailand only 94th which is almost certainly bogus considering graft is absolutely rife everywhere & the culture even promotes it in most cases.. Duff survey for sure

I was shocked as well, yes, there is corruption in Vietnam, but what they don't say is the 'Punishment for geting caught' is so severe that very little is done at the high level. I think the basis is 'if you are caught in a corruption scheme that steals more than $4000 USD (800,000 dong) you can spend 10 years to Life in prison. The "unnamed' US motor corporation was scammed out of approx 6 Million USD for "Licnses" to start up their venture that were never produced.....they pulled out of the deal and left country - eleven high level politicians were put to death, and over fifty lower level civil servants recieved long prison sentances - Vietnam take a glim look at stealing revenue of the Socialist Government. It's not at all uncommon to give a tip for services rendered in the form of cellphone minutes, presents during Tet and other holidays, donations to favorite charities etc etc etc. I don't call that corruption, your paperwork will go thru eventually with or without it - its a cost of doing business. I tip at resturants everywhere I go, no difference in my book.coffee1.gif
