Quick visa run from Udon to nong khai and back

Featured Replies

Hi, maybe this is a stupid question, but i rather double check before get into any problems at the border

i have a double entry tourist visa from Laos. i need to re-entry to activate my second entry

Can i just goto Udon, take a taxi to the border, exit and cross (somehow, maybe they have bus?) and then immediately return back the same way, grab a taxi at the Thai side and go back to Udon City?

Any pitfalls here?

Cheers

Yes, you can leave and re-enter the same day.

A said you can do it.

There is a shuttle bus to cross the bridge.

Be sure you have a photo for the Lao visa on arrival application and $30 to $42 (or 1500 baht) dependent upon your nationality to pay for it

. Make sure your Currency is Flawless, they want you to pay in Baht, they make more money, there is a bus service out of Udon I believe , if you go on Issan forum, maybe more info, Nong Khai is a Decent Town, Big International Market on The Mekong

Don't think you'll find a taxi in Udon. Most local transport is by Skylab (local version of a tuktuk, so named because pieces of them are always falling off and hitting Earth), but the minibus runs from the airport to the border. Ask at arrival, should be approx 200 baht each way.

As Dannyboy said, Nong Khai is a nice town. Since you're going, I suggest you take in the town, have a good lunch, maybe see Sala Kaew Ku, before catching the minibus back...lots of food along the river, etc.

Many Taxi Meters now operating in Udon

There is a mini-bus.. 'van service' from Udon to Nong Khai... I prefer the one that leaves from the Central Shopping Mall.. the drivers for the one that leaves from the bus station are 'ting-tong'!.. drive like idiots on speed.. The van will drop you at the Friendship Bridge.. take the shuttle across the bridge and back.. catch the next 'van' back to Udon.. smile.png

Thanks for correcting my out-of-date info, good to know!

I have an "O" visa and have to do a 90 day visa run. As I'll be in Udon Thani I thought about doing it at Nong Khai. I see that many people saying that you have to croos the bridge. Is it possible to do a U turn once gone through without going over the bridge to get a re-entry stamp?

You have to cross the bridge and enter Laos.

You will get a Lao visa on arrival that costs $30 to $42 dependent upon your nationality.

Thanks Joe.

What a waste of 1 page in the passport for a Laos visa that isn't needed.

When I was living in Phuket, I used to go to Ranong. Just got an ordinary stamp in/out and only $10.

Thanks again.

Hi, 1 more question. What is the latest time you can arrive to get the visa?

Thanks

The bridge is open until 10 pm.

You can get visa on arrival on the Lao side until then.

Thanks Joe

Can anyone please adivise me where to get the same vans that bring you to the bridge from Udon Airport to return to the airport from the bridge.Every time i get caught by the local vans/cars that want 400-600 baht instead of the 150 baht as they know you need to catch your flight and prey on this.

Thanks.
