Three arrested in Phuket tourist hub for drug possession

PHUKET: One man and two women were arrested in Patong last night when they were found to be in possession of crystal meth (ya ice).

Kathu police arrested the three during a swoop of the Patong area as part of their ongoing anti drug and crime campaign.

Police first arrested Kreangsak Pornpat, 39, with 2.59 grams of ya ice when he tried to sell an unknown amount of the drug to plain clothes police.

The arrest of Kreangsak led police to search and arrest two woman who were with him, Maneerat Gnamlert, 30, and Kannika Sombat, 33.

During the search of the women, police found they were both in possession of .35g of ya ice and also drug taking paraphernalia.

All three people were taken to Kathu police station where Kreangsak was charged with possessionj of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell, while Kannika and Maneerat were charged with possession of a Category 1 drug.

are there other places in Thailand apart from Phuket that are newsworthy I am sure what about Bangkok what about chiangmai I am sick and tired of reading about Phuket it is continually in the news .

I think the reason we get so many news items from Phuket and Pataya is because they both service the tourist

crowd.have a large quantity of expats and produce their own local English newspapers that make it easy for TV

to pass on their news to us, as opposed to say ... Udon Thani or Mukdahan. Just a guess

where there's a demand there will be a supply, round and round it goes amoung the little fishes, so what's new?

On top of this the police seem to love getting their photos in the newspaper, hence every minor arrest seems to be reported. Can you imagine plain clothes police in the West courting publicity in this way?
