A bill to guarantee labour welfare and protection for taxi drivers is being drafted

The Justice Ministry is drafting a bill to provide job security and welfare for 150,000 taxi drivers.

Legal adviser Pongpat Ruangkrua (พงษ์ภัฎ เรืองเครือ) said the bill requires taxi service operators to register as employers and to recruit drivers who rent their taxis as employees.

Mr. Pongpat said the bill aims to guarantee labour welfare and provide social security benefits to taxi drivers.

The bill will be presented to the National Policy Committee on Legal Development chaired by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra at the end of this month.
