Lite Beer
Phuket hotel employee gunned down in front of dozens of witnesses after drunken brawl, shooter arrestedEakkapop Thongtub PHUKET: Police say the two suspects who they arrested early this morning have confessed to shooting another man who bled to death on a crowded street in the early hours of the morning in front of a big crowd of night revelers near Chalong Circle. The suspects – including 26-year-old Mr Tharapong Nebbua of Phatthalung's Paphayom district who was named as the shooter, and Mr Yuranun Thongpantae, 27, of Phattthalung's muang district as the getaway motorbike driver – were snatched up by police at 4am at a house near Tesco Lotus Chalong. The arrests follow a swift manhunt after police were initially alerted at 1.15am this morning of a shooting on Patak Rd, about 500 metres from the Chalong traffic circle.Police arrived to the scene where they found th lifeless body of the male victim face down in a pool of blood in the middle of the road and surrounded by hesterically crying relatives, and dozens of onlookers. The victim was identified as Mr Apiwat Sriphet, 29, a Trang native who lived at a house on Soi Nakok in Chalong and worked at a hotel in Karon.Witnesses told police that before being shot, Mr Apiwat had run away from a brawl at a drinking establishment nearby and was pleading for help before two asailants on motorbike caught up and shot Apiwat several times in his upper torso.Rescue workers and polie confirmed that the victim had four bullet wounds under his armpit before the body was transferred to Vachira Phuket hospital for further examination. It is understood that prior to the brawl, Mr Apiwat had been drinking and socializing for several hours at the "Plern @ Chalong" night entertainment establishment with three friends.Witnesses said that at one point an altercation occured between Mr Apiwat's group and group of "juveniles" at another table. The altercation escalated into an all-out brawl in front of the establishment, and witnesses said that Mr Apiwat, realizing he was outmanned, fled from the scene to seek for help from any one of the dozens of night revellers looking on.However his desperate escape was to no avail as the two assailants on motorbike caught up and fired point blank by what has been described as a Thai handcrafted gun (Peun Thai Pradit).Source: http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-hotel-employee-gunned-down-in-front-of-dozens-of-witnesses-after-drunken-brawl-shooter-arrested-52653.php -- Phuket News 2015-06-

Some are designed to fire 9 bullets at the same time (so I've read). Can be kept on one's body, next to their Buddha amulet.

The police needs to take swift action on this to prevent further harm. RIP. Maybe the penalties here are too lenient although it likely more due to the pent up emotions which can explode at anytime. Police really need to get the guns off the streets. Just tooting your horn can invite a violent reaction.
deecee10
The Thai obsession with face-saving and the accompanying urge for revenge means that relatively minor incidents (by Western standards) can instantly escalate into full scale murderous violence. SEEDGER
The only way it could fire nine rounds at once is with nine barrels which the picture does not show. So that makes it a semi auto or it could be a full auto in which case one bullet would follow the first till the magazine was empty. However judging from the quality in the picture it seems unlikely to be full auto or even semi auto in fact it looks like a single shot. Hmm so what does the Thai Visa body think 1000 baht fine for the shooters!

What did someone say about sarcasm? I said maybe because I simply do not know what the penalties are. In Malaysia it can be the death penalty. We often read about arrests over firearms but the court case & sentencing. are rarely reported.
