The issue concerns a couple who have contracted a civil partnership in UK; one partner has a good job in Hong Kong, and the other wants full partnership rights.

I lived in Hong Kong for 26 years, and met 'the love of my life' there. We had no partnership rights, but as each of us had his own position in society, we didn't worry. There was no obvious discrimination.

We left in 1991. The Chinese takeaway took place in 1997. Since then it is quite clear that China does not care a damn what Britain might say, and totally disregards the British rights under the 1984 agreement.
