BANGKOK: -- A night fire broke out Wednesday night at a plastic re cycling factory in Bangphli district of Samut Prakarn, completely gutted a godown where recycling plastic were stored.

Initial damage was estimated at 10 million baht as the godown building collapsed to the ground after two hours of fire.

Witnesses told police the fire started inside the godown of Thawiphaisarl factory at about 9.30 pm and quickly engulfed the huge pikes of plastic and clothes stored inside.

Twenty fire trucks arrived but were delayed by the rough road and its so many curves to the factory. They were able to control the fire from spreading to nearby godown which is a new metres apart two hours later.

The gutted godown roof and metal structure collapsed after they were melted from heat from the fire.

One worker was slightly injured from burns, while another suffocated smokes.

Investigation is under way this morning to look into the fire cause.

So if you want the services of the fire department, make sure that the road to your dwelling is straight!!

The roads in all the industrial estates are poorly maintained and many of them near undriveable. The individual industrial estate authorities are responsible for the condition of the roadways, not the factory owners.

Compounding the problem, fire safety in the industrial estate factories is almost nonexistent. Many of the factories do not receive an annual fire safety inspection by their local fire brigades. Fire suppression systems, alarms and fire extinguishers go uninspected for years. Refuse is allowed to pile-up and this creates fire hazards.

Devastating fires have become more frequent in the factories in the industrial estates. The Ministry of Industry, despite promising a crackdown on fire safety in factories, has done nothing over the past year to improve on this.

Now I know why the sirens for hours last night..... I already feared something bad had happened at Swampy....

These recycling depots seem to be going up in smoke a lot lately, what's the story?

Again environmental protection and health & safety seem not to count in the kingdom. Every country has had problems with recycling plants, strict regulation with appropriate enforcement is the only way. A simple truth that Thailand has apparently chosen to ignore !!!!!

Usually when the price of the commodities goes down, they have a fire and claim insurance a common practise every where,

Not true. I have been to many of the Industrial Estates in Thailand and have never seen poorly maintained roads apart from where the leather factories were sited in Samut Prakarn. However that was not a purposely built industrial estate, the Leather Association just encouraged members to build factories near to each other.

Guess they will have to recycle whats left Lol whistling.gif

But the good news is: there hasn't been a major bus crash in the kingdom in well over 24 hours...
