Hi there,

I would like to take a taxi from Sukhumvit to Suvarnabhumi airport around 6pm on a Monday. I'd like to know how much will it be and how long will it take. Any companies that can pick me up at my place? Any suggestions, other than public transportation -which I am reluctant to use? Cheers.

I find GrabTaxi to be the best option for me for a pick-up at my home (down a long sub-soi) with no passing taxis available, going to the airport with luggage; I use the Android App., usually do not utilize the "tip" option (unless there are very few cabs nearby, then I might 'tip' 50 baht).

You have to pay an extra 25 baht, and any tolls, over and above the meter.

There are telephone dispatch services (Google Bangkok Radio Taxi) like 1661 - these charge an extra 20 baht.

Total fare and travel time will vary based on your exact origination point but I might say 350 baht or less (fare, tolls, tip, GrabTaxi fee), and 65 minutes or less - door to door. Obviously if there is a huge thunderstorm with localized flooding then travel times may stretch up to several hours.

Sukhumvit is a VERY long road, so really also depends on you are on Sukhumvit (Soi 11 (BTS Nana) or Soi 81 (BTS Onnut) etc.) which can make a big difference (more in terms of time)

In any event, from very beginning of Sukhumvit (Soi Lang Suan) I took a cab to airport yesterday (Sunday) to escort some people out. Just over B300 (plus tollways B75)..traffic not too bad even with a bit of rain.

I have seen it take hours to get to Bkk airport that time of the day.If time is critical leave early. As far as the price 250,350,450 baht,

Does it really matter? Are ya broke. All of these are cheap prices.Try. JFK to Manhattan 2000 baht, maybe more.I just get any taxi.

At that time it should be reasonably quick unless there is flooding or the driver is stupid and you do not know routes to direct him to the nearest 'highway'/overhead toll road entrance (the latter can never be ruled out). Once you are on the highway it should take no more than 30 to 45 minutes depending on what part of Sukhumvit you are starting (if the weather is fine).

Consistent enough with other advice here I would have advised a cost of 300 baht from soi 4 (Nana), reducing down to 250 baht if you are as far out as Prakanong/Onnut. Tolls of 55 baht ('higher numbered Sukhumvit sois - sois 70 to 100 accessing the Ram Intra - Chaloern Rat highway) up to 80 baht (Lower/mid Suk on top.

Personally I have never booked a taxi, but I do wake up in time to assess the weather so I can go to roadside much earlier if it is raining or looks like rain. I would start looking for a taxi 3 hours before international flight time and 4 if it's raining (take half an hour off that if domestic). I have never missed any of the 100+ flights in 20 years.

Forgot - two months ago I took full family back to UK from OnNut - wife plus two kids who are now old enough to want to take loads of clobber.

I ended up having to use two normal-sized hailed cabs, as a larger one did not sail-up in 20 minutes of waiting (unusual). I would recommend booking a larger cab in fully-loaded family situations. A normal LPG Altera cab will only take one large bag* plus 1 to 2 cabin bags and the front seat, if unused by passengers, will only take an additional couple of large bags or 3 mediums or many cabins (or combinations thereof).

*Large = 84x57x32cm. Cabin = airline max size of typically 55x40x20cm

From Sukhumvit and Asoke, where I live, the fare is usually less than 200 baht, plus add 25 baht for toll entering Rama 9.

The real problem is the time of day you want to travel. 6 pm is just BAD traffic. Unless you have a lot of suitcases, I would go BTS/MRT and airport link at that time of day.
